More than 230 students and parents filled Timmerman Elementary last week for fun, food and math.
The school hosted a Math Carnival and teachers and support staff served food and led families through various stations that allowed them to use math skills.
Activities included estimation jars, face painting, and animal balloons courtesy of Barb Rourk from the Emporia Recreation Center.
“We also had 10 math stations set up with a carnival theme that children walked around to with families,” said teacher Laurie Kurzen, one of the organizers.
Math stations had themes such as, “Take a Walk on the Wild Side” using adding and subtracting along the trail, a “Chicken Sling” that incorporated numbers, and a “Duck Pond” that included computation.
Families also played bingo, ate cotton candy and left with door prizes. Grand prizes of a night of bowling and family meal were donated by Flint Hills Lanes and Pizza Ranch.
