Mundy’s defense begins in fraud case

Thursday, March 4, 2010

The prosecution rested at noon Wednesday, and testimony for the defense began in the afternoon during the Medicaid fraud trial of Vivian Mundy in Lyon County District Court.

Mundy, the owner of Cognitive Care Connections of Emporia and Topeka, has been accused of multiple felonies involving alleged overbillings and billings for services not provided to brain trauma injury (BTI) clients under Medicaid.

Work associates and character witnesses testified on behalf of Mundy, following a morning that began with a 90-minute tape recording of an interview conducted by Mark Montague, fraud investigator with the Kansas Attorney General’s office. Also present at the interview was Medicaid analyst Camille McKinney, who had created spreadsheets outlining discrepancies in Cognitive Care’s billings.
