Four people, including one juvenile from Topeka, are in custody this morning following an overnight attempted burglary of an Emporia liquor store.
Sgt. Mark Summey of the Emporia Police Department said this morning that Emporians Edward Hall, Logan Badgett and Levi Lapping were arrested early this morning along with Brandon Villa, a juvenile runaway from Topeka, after allegedly attempting to break into the Nik of Time liquor store, 1517 E. Sixth Ave. The attempted burglary allegedly happened around 11:30 p.m. Around that time, the police department received a report of people on the roof of the liquor store. When officers arrived, four male suspects took off running south of the building and disappeared into the night, Summey said. Witness reports led officers to a van that was parked at the corner of Dorset and Lafalle. The witness said the suspects had gotten out of the van.
“About an hour later a young lady called to report the van stolen,” Summey said.
Through interviews with the woman who called to report the van stolen, officers were able to locate all four suspects, Summey said. The suspects were arrested around 3 or 3:30 this morning. They are being charged with attempted burglary and criminal damage to property and are being held in the Lyon County Jail.

This just goes to show what can be accomplished when people step up and help prevent crimes. The police can't be everywhere at once, after all.

It is unfortunate to read and hear about this event. One of these individuals served as a close friend and mentor to myself and many others. He was an outstanding kid at one time, and its a shame that everything has come to this. I hope that those involved will learn to respect themselves and their peers. I constantly pray my friend's safety and well-being, and that he will some day return to the person that I once looked up to.

I have known Logan since he was a little peanut in his mothers womb. he really is a good kid, with a big heart who did a stupid thing. Please keep in mind we all did stupid things when we were young. The law says you are an adult at age 18, well, Logan isn't much older than that and I know I was not REALLY an adult at age 18 and I was much further along in development and smarts than most people I knew at that age. Should he suffer the consequences of his actions? If he did them, then yes. Absolutely. I can tell you one thing- IF Logan did this, he was DEFINITELY NOT the ring leader and probably did the least amount of involvement. So please just know that he is someones kid and loved one. As for levi? Well, I can't say I have EVER heard a lot of good about him. He's your possible ring leader. There's no excuse for this and I am severely disappointed but I will hold out hope for all four that they don't ever pull this crud again- IF they are guilty!

Theshape-I honestly agree that the men should pay their dues for what they attempted to do if they are convicted of the crime. I am sure they will each learn from this and, hopefully, they will become better men from it. However, I would request that when you post a comment to a public column, you respect everyone, which includes the other parties involved, not just the one you know. Unless you are the prosecutor involved in their cases and have copies of all the discovery documents provided by the State, I suggest you keep your slanderous accusations to yourself, Hopefully, you will learn from this also.

theshape, a mistake is when you make an error, this was not an error! If guilty these guys consciously stole a van and it appears were going through a roof to steal property. Stupid, yes, error, no. I hope the system makes an impression on them because they were definitely not impressed by the value of someone's property and the impact their actions have on peoples lives. I am so glad they got caught, at least for awhile their lifestyle has changed and hopefully it will be a true learning experience that changes their direction. Way to go LEO!!!!!
