Bowyer will sign autographs today at Longbine Auto Plaza

Monday, March 1, 2010

Gillette may call it a “Young Gun” promotion, but in Emporia, it will be Beards for Bowyer on Monday at Longbine Auto Plaza, 3012 W. Highway 50.

NASCAR driver and Emporia native Clint Bowyer will be in town to sign autographs and talk with fans while a Gillette-branded motor coach on-site will offer free shaves with a Gillette Fusion MVP razor, plus samples of Gillette products.

NASCAR’s “Young Guns” have been divided into three two-driver teams that will travel coast-to-coast, with special pit stops in each driver’s hometown.

Bowyer has been paired with Carl Edwards. Other teams are made up of Kyle Busch and Joey Logan and Denny Hamlin with Kasey Kahne.

The campaign began in Daytona, Fla., and will continue until April 30. The goal is for the team to record more than 500,000 shaves before April 30, according to details from Nicole Anastasi, whose agency is handling the promotion. Organizers estimate that will be the equivalent of 500 miles.

People who receive shaves will need to log them online at Gillette500.com.

A television advertisement introduced the Gillette competition during the Daytona 500, which opened NASCAR’s racing season on Feb. 14.

Bowyer finished fourth at Daytona and eighth in the Auto Club 500 at Fontana, Calif., last weekend.

The Emporia driver led 37 laps at Daytona in the Cheerios/Hamburger Helper No. 33 Chevy Impala. He had led two laps at Fontana before debris on the grill, and a subsequent hot engine, forced an unexpected pit stop that left him in 24th place, one lap behind the leaders.

The top-10 placings helped earn him second place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship point standings, 19 points behind Richard Childress Racing teammate Kevin Harvick.

Bowyer will participate in the Shelby American Race at Las Vegas on Sunday before coming to Emporia on Monday.

He will sign autographs between noon and 1 p.m., according to a schedule provided by Anastasi.

Fans also will be able to enter the Gillette 500 sweepstakes at the Gillette500.com Web site. The winner will receive a hometown visit by one of the Gillette Young Guns, Anastasi said.

BRRR! is right! Seems we oughta be able to work this into something. If any of the ladies can talk them into shaving their legs,I'll go a twenty dollar donation each for the first five ladies.Say to BBBS of Emporia,or Americus Pool Fund. Their choice.

why does everyone always want to donate to BBBS? They have fundraisers ALL the time...what about an organization that serves EVERYONE in the community, like SOS or the Mental Health Center?

Was a nice event, alot of people there. I took them up on the free shave, two very pretty young ladies doing them. Clint was very gracious and approachable as usual.
