Energy U-12s win tournament

The Emporia Energy U-12 softball team won a tournament in Derby this weekend. Emporia opened the weekend with an 18-0 win against the Crushers, a team from Newkirk, Okla. The Energy took their only loss of the weekend to Great Bend Quicksilver in its second game on Saturday, losing 5-1. Emporia then entered bracket play and took a 1-0 win against Motley Crue, which put the Energy into the semifinals. After beating the Dust Devils 6-5 in the semifinals, the Energy had earned a rematch with Great Bend. This time, Emporia used a five-run third inning to win 9-3.

Abby Weiser and Kelsey Gordon both had doubles in the third inning of the title game for the Energy. Emma Harmon scored three runs in the game. Weiser pitched much of the tournament for Emporia, earning three of the four wins. Kylee Giffin earned the decision in Emporia’s win against the Dust Devils.

The Energy U-14 team also won the same tournament.

Thunder takes third place

The Emporia Thunder took third place at a tournament in Winfield this weekend. Emporia finished 3-1, with wins against the Wichita Sluggers, the Wichita Black Sox and Derby. The Thunder beat the Sluggers 5-3, Derby 13-4 and the Black Sox 15-4

Emporia’s lone loss was a 13-2 defeat to the Wichita Dodgers.

The Thunder will take on the Emporia A-16 Legion team on Wednesday at Trusler.

Energy U-18s finish fourth

The Emporia Energy U-18 softball team finished fourth at the ASA B state tournament in Wichita this weekend. The Energy finished 3-3 on the weekend with wins against the Clay Center B’s, Da Wreck’n Crew and the Augusta Chill. The Energy lost to the Kansas Threat and twice to the Jitterbugs. Heather Duncan had six hits over the weekend for the Energy, and Taylor Rains and Erin Eidman each had five.

wow, fantastic win for the home teams!!..too bad not much of a write up and no pictures online. two emporia teams winning, another taking third, and the 18 team taking 4th in the state and it's just a couple of paragraphs....what would it take to get better coverage for the softball teams? especially when they seem to be doing better than the boys baseball teams?
