Vote for Wasinger
Joey Dempewolf

As a student attending Emporia State University, I am concerned with the growing burden of debt on my generation and am concerned with how I will find a job in rural Kansas when I graduate
Due to my concerns, I began to research who the best candidate is to replace the big shoes of Jerry Moran. Our district needs a representative who will put an end to the outrageous spending in Washington and has an actual plan to bring good-paying jobs back to the “Big First.”
As a member of the College Republicans of ESU, I take a valued interest in hearing from the candidates for the position. Our chapter invited Jim Barnett, but apparently he did not feel it was necessary to talk about his positions or his policies to us as he refused to visit with us. After further research, I have realized that Jim Barnett has done more harm to Emporia than good. His big government policies such as his support of the smoking ban and the Sebelius health care plan have stunted our local economy and killed jobs.
Rob Wasinger is the correct choice for the position. Rob reached out to our College Republicans chapter, which no other candidate felt compelled to do. Furthermore, Rob has a plan to stop the outflow of people from counties in the 1st District and return jobs to the area through his New Homestead Act. As the father of nine children, I know that Rob will fight for me and future generations.
Please join me in voting for Rob Wasinger in the August 3rd Republican primary.

My question to Mr. Was .. is ,how can he support a family that large? Where does the money trail come from?? Who are his top five contributers?

Good editorial. You gave reasons why you like a certain candidate and why you don't like certain candidates.
Not sure why you included the smoking ban in the argument though. I don't think you can draw a straight line and conclude that the ban nor the health plan stunted the Emporia growth. Economic times are in decline everywhere. And Emporia has been stagnant even before the recent decline in the economy.
That being said though your article did what you intended. It brought awareness to the man you support. And, because you wrote it, I will research him and his platform.

Mr. Dempewolf: How do you equate the smoking ban and the health care plan to the decline of the Emporia economy? What other "big government policies" does Dr. Barnett have? Why else should we believe that just because Mr. Wasinger chose to visit your organization, he is the best candidate for the job?

Umm. He worked for Senator Brownback, and spend many years in Washington. Why didn't they put an end to outrageous spending? Were they just wasting their time?

Joey,
NNice letter, glad you are studying the candidates. This primary will give Kansas voters the chance to say, "DONT TAKE MY VOTE FOR GRANTED!"
Like you either Wasinger or Huelkamp will get my vote in the primary. Anyone but Barnett.
However, after the primary vote, I will look toward the Democratic or Independent candidate in the general election. The Republican field of candidates are far to the right and this registered Republican wants a middle of the road candidate. This August vote also includes the local sales tax question, which is convienently a non-news issue. It will pass because of voter apathy. It is time voters tell our reps "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!"

Is Rob Wasinger a Kansan with the welfare of Kansans at heart or is he a transplanted Virginian with other interests on his mind and just calls himself a concerned Kansan or does he just want to get in on the " Big " money that is to be had, from the lobbying/lobbyists in D.C. ?

If you want to really know how a candidate or congressman will vote or treat the people and who he will listen to and do favors for, just take a look at who is making campaign contributions to his campaign. This site lists campaign contributors to Rob Wasingers" bid for Congress. http://www.campaignmoney.com/politica...
Don't be stupid and vote on rehtoric and promises only . Do some digging and thorougly research a candidate, especially where his campaign money comes from . Be a smart voter, and don' t be conned by what you want to hear .

Thanks methusla, that Dirt Diver site is an interesting one. Always good to read the comments on it as well. One example...
"The information is wrong. Rob is a native Kansan, graduate of the Hays school system. He’s worked on Kansas political staffs in Topeka and in DC (for Sen. Sam Brownback, R-KS). If you work in DC you gotta live somewhere and most everybody picks living south of DC, in Virginia (if you’ve ever lived in Maryland, you’ll know why). The video is very clever. It is also an outright political lie. – The Refugee Kansan"
Now, gonna take a look at the campaignmoney.com site. Thanks again.

Yes, the http:// www.campaignmoney.com site is an interesting site, if you want to know where the candidates are getting their money . Seems like a very good informational site and I believe is a non biased, non-sponsered or party backed site. And it is fairly simple to navigate the site also . I believe it is well worth it, to visit the site. An educated and knowing voter is a better voter.

One thing I learned about Wasinger from a young man who was going door to door leaving pamphlets. Waysinger lives in Chase County and it doesn't look like their school system is going to get a dime from all those children because they are home-schooled.
Does this mean Waysinger has something against the school system so he doesn't want to support it? Is it not good enough for him? Is it the Chase County system he doesn't like? As far as I know, they use Kansas standards too.
As a long-time teacher and supporter of Kansas education, I have little respect for people who thumb their noses at our education system.
The writer of this article states, "Rob has a plan to stop the outflow of people from counties in the 1st District and return jobs to the area through his New Homestead Act"
If he's so interested in the economy, why has he removed state dollars from the school system in Chase Co. by having his children home-schooled?
Also, Rob Wasinger does consultant work. What kind?

I'm not saying I am in favor of Wasinger. I haven't even begun to make up my mind about who to vote for yet, hell it might even be a democrat.
I just don't understand people harping about the no. of kids he's got or whether he home schools them or how he affords them. Just because he's got 9 kids doesn't mean he's on the take, maybe he does without a lot of other things in life.
So he moves back into Barnett's district to run, at least he can prove he's a native Kansan.
I do know one thing I've had enough of Barnett, imo he should have kept his day job. He might just need it.
As far as where Wasinger came from,I'm one hell of a lot more interested in where barry's really from, much much more important to me.

I'm with you, tbluma. I don't know who I'm voting for. I like everything about this guy so far, except for two things. One, that he's a politician and two, that he's running on the ticket of one of the two parties that I hate. I think its sad, though,to see the liberal fur start flying at the mention of family size or schooling option. Those are things that actually might help train him to be a better representative. Having to manage the finances of a household that large as well as having to listen to up to twelve differing opinions and having to make the best decision for everyone involved is pertinent to the job he's running for.
Consider these items, critics:
-Parents who choose to have large families often choose to homeschool to make sure they have adequate daily time with each child. This is good parenting and has nothing to do with the quality of public education. Military families who move with the soldier parent also choose this often so the kids' education isn't disrupted from changing schools. I can see this working for politicians too.
-I know a few families who have five or six kids each and they don't earn even double our family's income. What they do is spend much more wisely than my family does. In reading the blog of "poor Mrs. Wasinger," as someone referred earlier to her, I gather that their family does the same.
-And speaking of calling someone who's had lots of kids "poor," one of the moms of six that I know was asked one day what prompted them to have so many kids. Did she just always want that? She replied that she learned with her first pregnancy, a surprise one, as she hadn't really planned on having any, that she felt better pregnant than she did not pregnant, so being a mom of little ones was easier if she was expecting another. A mom of five that I know said she never felt much different than normal except for being a little more tired after the 7th month. I cannot say I relate to this. I only have two kids for a reason.
-Lastly, I've been told by someone in public education that studies show that kids from large families and/or homeschooling ones have better social skills as adults because they grow up learning to see the perspective of others who are at differing stages of maturity.
So really, all this criticism over having several kids and home-schooling them seems to be just the mud-slinging of those who are staunchly anti-republican.

Funny how this guy hasn't gotten even one contribution from anyone in Chase County or even Cottonwood Falls. Less than 25% of all his contributors come from Kansas. Most of his contributions come from the D.C. Area and New York City. That tells you who he will be working for if elected. But that wouldn't really be any different than what we have always had in the past. Well, except for Dudley Doolittle. Now that was a great representative from Chase County I tell ya!

Well folks here is one important thing I take into consideration when considering a candidate for public office.
If, most of his political campaign contributions come form outside his constituency area, then how in the world can he really work for those constituents/people in his district who elected him to office ? Especially when all those who make/made the majority of the money contributions to him, by way of campaign contributions or lobbying/lobbyist efforts ? Especially since they will be the ones making the biggest demands on him for his favors, votes, legislation and laws, in their favor, as pay-back for their monetary contributions and support ?
The biggest problem in government today is, the fact that government, all government is being controlled by the " HIGHEST BIDDER ", namely those who make large campaign comtributions, lobbying and lobbyist moneys . The main illusion that most voters have is, that the congressmen/women and government are elected and controlled by the people, but the real truth is that government has, is and will be bought before and after any and all elections, by those who can afford to buy congressmen/women and government.
Therefore, how do/would you feel about voting for someone whos' allegiances and loyalty will/would be to people/bosses who are not legally able to vote for him/her.

Even if I don't consider the fact that his kids are home-schooled, I still have little respect for someone who moves all the way back to Kansas strictly to run for an office that he thinks will soon take him back to his Virginia home. So who then is he interested in serving? And if his contributions are coming largely from D.C. and New York, where does that leave Kansas? This guy sounds like an opportunist.

The Wasinger children have in fact been enrolled and attended Chase County Schools for the last year and a half, since they moved into our district. I may not know Mr. Wasinger very well, but I have students in Chase County, who have attended classes with the Wasinger children. I don't know if they were previously home schooled, I don't really care, it makes not one bit of difference to me how they chose to educate thier children. But they have been attending our local schools.

That may be a "fact" and your children have been in class with the children but somebody else heard from somebody that may or may not have a brother that might have over heard a door to door vacuum cleaner salesman say that his cousin said one time that she heard that somebody with the last name of Waltsinger home-schooled (gasp!) their own children and Waltsinger does sound suspiciously like Wasinger so it is definitely enough reason to criticize him and demonize him. My husband and I are democrats; we have considered homeschooling our children and hubby is the oldest of a family of nine.
I really don't see how party affiliation, family size and how your kids are educated could be associated with each other?
This is the kind of stuff that drives a wedge between people of different view points and accomplishes nothing. We see it going on every day in Washington and at the Statehouse in Kansas. Inertia!
This is the very reason why important issues for our country and state are not being settled by our leaders in Washington or those at the Statehouse in Kansas due to their lack of compromise. And I'm speaking about both sides of the aisle. That's how we have balance...

You are correct about there being no compromise in government.
But, the question is, do you or anyone know why there is no compromise in government and why everything is either " Left " or " Right ", Conservative, Liberal and not the middle of the road ?
I think I may be able to answer this question for you and others if you like .

I'd like to hear your opinion on that Methusla.
From what I've read, I believe this extremism occurred since Reagan's administration. According to a several sources, I've read stories about Reagan and Tip O'Neil railing against each other on subjects they disagreed with but they were able to also sit down and work things out between the parties because they respected each other. For the most part, they disregarded the lobbyists.
Unfortunately now, I believe big money and the influence of it is ruining politics and therefore, our country. Accepting money from PACs, large corporations and other groups that want to have influence on the way a politician votes should be made illegal. It's time for politicians to vote with their conscience and what's truly best for the people rather than what's best for an entity, which only wants to make more money for itself.
I believe politicians can't respect others from a different point of view because they probably don't even respect themselves, given what they do to get and stay in office.
Time for a conscience in politics... IMHO!

Fact: Drive down their street. Their very young children, including toddlers are taught to consider the street their playground for bikes and trikes. Note, their porch is a long way from the street. The house is a L shape, thus who ever might be be watching the kids, aka mom, sitting on the porch sits with her view from the south, traffic completely blocked by many feet of stone house. The kids have to notice the cars stop if they do, to wait for the them to clear the street. Note also, this is one of the few streets with fewer dips so many people drive it because they can drive faster.
The people watching the children clearly think it is harmless to let several young children play freely all over the street.
"Oh, the Wassinger babies are at play, everyone must stop and wait for them to clear the road". I'm not talking once, I'm talking each day I drive down it. This is their hardtop playground, like a schoolyard.
These children will eventually leave this town, what then? Will they think people will stop completely while they pick up their bikes and toys to move along because it's okay to play in the street?
Many in town discuss their lack of birth control and behavior. The house they bought, they must be climbing over each other, I don't care what changes they make.
