An alarm company doing business in Emporia is now licensed to install and monitor alarm systems in Emporia.
The Emporia Police Department recently has received several citizen complaints and concerns about an alarm company conducting door to door sales in the City of Emporia.
According to a Thursday morning press release from Lt. John Koelsch of the Emporia Police Department, complainants state that individuals are representing themselves as Pinnacle Security and are claiming an affiliation with the City of Emporia and the Emporia Police Department.
“Although every private alarm company who conducts business in the City of Emporia must obtain a Central Alarm License in order to install and monitor alarms services, the city nor the police are affiliated with any private alarm company,” Koelsch said in the release.
McKay Selph, regional manager for Pinnacle Security said the situation was a miscommunication.
“We’re not a scam and it was a miscommunication,” Selph said.
Selph said the company is not affiliated with the City of Emporia or the Emporia Police Department.
“When alarms go off, the police responds, but we are not affiliated with the police,” Selph said.
Thursday morning’s press release also stated that Pinnacle Security did not have a Central Alarm License. However, as of Thursday afternoon they purchased a license and are legal now, Koelsch said.

a typo? "...the city nor the police are affiliated..."
Shouldn't this read "...neither the city nor the police..." ?

They tried this last Fall around here, came to my house at 7 p.m. on a Friday night and tried to scare me into buying by talking about "all the recent break-ins on the news".

No, Orlando, that is not a typo. I quoted the news release the way it was written.

Stovepipe...they are still up to the same lies as last year then. They came to my house last week where I have lived for the last 3 years and our whole neighborhood knows one another and have cookouts together quite regularly. Anyway they show up at my door last week, asked me if I was aware of all the break ins right here in my neighborhood, claiming my neighbor across the street just had a break in last month, and I laughed my azz off at him. I told him hey, there hasnt been a breakin in this area for over 3 years and the folks across the street that he is referring to is my sister lol and she sure didnt have no break in. I told him I have a dog and a gun in the house that will do a whole lot better than his alarm.
I can't believe our city allows these people to "scam" folks into buying their alarm systems by trying to scare the hell otta people. Didnt work for me, but, what about the older folks whom live alone and these azzes go knocking on their door making up these stupid stories just so they can make a sell. I notified the police about the way they are trying to scare people into this and was told they couldn't do anything about because they have permission with the city to sell here. Well, so be it, I just hope everyone out there that has an elder family member living alone, that you please let them in on this scam so as not to be scared or alarmed when these butt heads go knockin on their door too. I hate liars as much as I hate thiefs.
Just another great day in Emporia :)

To everyone out there giving out bad advise about this company. We have purchased their equipment. They are a great company. They stand behind their words. Check out their site. I to have a dog but when we go on vacations we take the dog with us. So the added security gives us the comfort we need.

I was hoping a journalist would address this, seeing as they are supposed to have had additional education in English, but since none have, I will. The word "neither" was implied by the negative tense of the sentence, making the use of "nor" required. The use of "either" or "neither" is not required for the use of "or" or "nor," but they do determine by implication or presence which is used.
Therefore, the sentence was correct in addition to the latitude given by the rules of quoting.

Albert,
I'm sure they reminded you that there is also an annual fee you will be paying the city for your alarm and you are responsible for the fines of the false alarms? Or did the forget to tell you that part? They did for us.
