Olpe’s Jase Hubert took a brief trip to St. Louis Saturday. The trip was so brief that he didn’t even see the Gateway Arch. Hubert, a member of the East squad for the upcoming Kansas Shrine Bowl, was making a trip with his teammates to a Shriners Hospital to visit with children.
Hubert and his teammates took a ride to Kansas City only to then take a train ride to St. Louis. They spent about an hour-and-a-half visiting with some of the children at the hospital. Hubert said they let the children dictate the activities, playing basketball and air hockey among other games the children suggested.
“It was pretty touching to see the kids,” Hubert said. “They sure liked it. This whole thing’s a good cause.”
After the hour-and-a-half, it was time to come back to Emporia. The East team has been training at Welch Stadium in preparation for the game, which will be held Saturday in Pittsburg.
