Emporia State students will be able to obtain some textbooks at half price on campus this fall by renting instead of buying. But they won’t be able to sell rented books back for cash at the end of the semester.
Most students already view textbooks as temporary property. Rather then paying a sizable up-front cost, students have inquired about renting options.
“This is dictated by what students want,” said Mike McRell, ESU Memorial Union Bookstore manager. “They have been asking for a less expensive option.”

Honestly, most of my semesters in college, I didn't buy the textbook, and I didn't need it. There were only about three classes I took where I really needed the textbook to understand the material- chemistry, for instance- but for most of my classes, we didn't open it once. For example, in my econ class, I went to class about seven times throughout the semester and was astounded by how little was taught. I ended up stopping going to class, just read some articles about basic economics on my own time- about three hours worth of time investment- and showed up for the final, which I did very well on. I ended up getting quite a respectable grade in the class, but I was mostly irritated that I had wasted so much money to learn almost nothing.

As for me, I use DealOz.com to sell my textbooks. I've saved lots of money with their great prices and store coupons. When I sell textbooks, it compares store prices to get the best deals (best buybacks) for me.
