The Emporia Police Department has turned over paperwork to the Lyon County Attorney's office, to ask that charges be filed against three people they believe were involved in two armed robberies early Friday morning, according to EPD Lt. John Koelsch.
The determination whether charges will be filed will be made by the county attorney or an assistant county attorney.
Information about possible charges was not available shortly before 5 p.m.
Investigation into the robberies culminated in a concerted response from city and county law enforcement officers, the EPD special response team, two K-9 units and Emporia-Lyon County ambulance personnel converging on The Linden Apartments, 822 Merchant St., to bring out suspects who had refused to come out of the building.
The first robbery was reported at 12:50 a.m. at 420 Neosho St., where a woman and three children were kept in different rooms while the suspects took things from the home.
The intruders were armed with what was described as "non-firearm" weapons at that house and at a house at 801 W. Seventh Ave.
The second break-in was reported shortly after 3:30 a.m. the same day. The 68-year-old woman at that house stated that she had been threatened with bodily harm while the intruders stole items from the house.
Approximately 10 minutes later, Sgt. Carlton Heller spotted what he believed was the suspect's vehicle in the parking lot at 822 Merchant St.
Police obtained search warrants for two separate apartments and, after negotiations, were able to take away at least one person. The apartment building had been evacuated for the safety of other residents.
A silver Dodge Stratus that Heller had found was towed away from the apartment.
Investigation into the robberies is continuing.
People with information about the crimes are asked to call police at 343-4200 or Lyon County Crime Stoppers at 342-2273.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
