One person was taken away in handcuffs and residents of the Linden Apartments, 822 Merchant St., were allowed back inside their home about 8:40 a.m. today, after law enforcement officers worked several hours at an as-yet unspecified incident inside the building.

Residents had been evacuated around 8 a.m. One of the residents said that he was awakened around 4:30 a.m. when the situation may have begun.

Officers from the Emporia Police Department and the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, including two K-9 units, EPD's special response unit and the Emporia-Lyon County Ambulance Service were staged in the area. An EPD negotiator also was sent inside the building.

Check back for more details.

Me too History_nerd. I drove by around 8:15 and two police cars were parked on the east side of the street and there was a police officer scoping the place out from the sidewalk.
