If elected Kansas secretary of state, Chris Steineger has a three-pronged approach to fighting voter apathy, which he sees as the biggest problem for the office.
Steineger, who has served 14 years as a state senator, faces Chris Biggs in the Democratic primary Aug. 3 for secretary of state. Biggs is the incumbent, having been named to the position by Gov. Mark Parkinson in March after the resignation of Ron Thornburgh.
The first step to fighting voter apathy, Steineger said during a campaign stop in Emporia, is to increase voters’ accessibility.
“We need to consider moving advance voting locations into banks and grocery stores,” he said. “These are places people frequent on a weekly basis.”
