On Thursday, the Emporia State University campus became Pepsi- free.
The university recently awarded a 10-year soft-drink vending contract to Coca-Cola Bottling of Emporia, which lost the vending contract in July 2000 to Pepsi. That year, Pepsi, Coca-Cola Bottling of Emporia and RC submitted bids, according to Ray Hauke, vice-president for administration and fiscal affairs and ESU. For the current contract, only Pepsi and Coke submitted bids, which were very similar.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have it,” Jeff DeBauge, CEO of Coca-Cola Bottling of Emporia, said of the contract.
