Excuse me, please. What kind of a crisis are we brewing here in our country?

We don’t just have 12-million-plus illegal aliens running loose here and marching in our streets in defiance.

We have 12-million-plus FELONY-CRIMINAL ALIENS — plus their friends — telling us we are no longer a country built on constitutional law. We are now a country where law is a joke to those marching and near rioting in our streets simply because a state terribly criminalized by these illegal felony criminals has decided to try and stop it.

When their backs are against the wall with nowhere else to turn, what else is there to do but pass new state laws to enforce the already existing laws against felony-criminals. As a last resort, before outright arresting them which has always been legal — even while some of these felony criminal aliens are shooting and killing citizens of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

Our president was talking to the wrong group of graduating people in Michigan about use of inflammatory words. He needs to address the illegal felony criminals by telling them to leave our country immediately, instead of marching in our streets and inciting race riots against our citizens, not to exclude some of our legal citizens who are also included in these felony criminal acts.

Please try to distance yourselves from whatever you are smoking, folks. This is serious business. We either are, or we are not, a nation of enforcing laws. It is a matter of law. Our Constitution requires the U.S. government to put a stop to this kind of behavior.

Immigration law is necessary. But the law becomes a joke when it criminalizes normal human behaviors, like relocating for a job. Migration is as natural as eating a drinking... and our current rate of 5,000 low-skilled visas isn't going to cut it. We either need more visas or we need bigger penalties for the people who are hiring illegally.

Arizona's law is as ridiculous as it is reactive. How on earth are we going to pay to depopulate our country of 12 million people?

You are exactly right about the illegal immigration problem and sail you are exactly right also about the voter side of the problem also.
Here is the problem, as long as you are going to have " bleeding hearts " such as arminius, and others, who say punish those who hire the illegal immigrants and not close the boarder to the illegals, drug smugglers, illegal immigrant smugglers, etc., the problem will continue to exist and even get worse.
Arizona and the 21 others states who are comtemplating taking care of the illegal immigrant problems themselves, because the double talking, spineless President and Congress are unwilling to do so, are absolutely on the right track in trying to protect the legal citizens of their respective States and Country.
In case you bleeding hearts are not aware, illegal immigrants recieve much more in public entitlements and assistance than they will ever pay as legal taxpayers. And this fact alone will break this country, unless something is done about it . And what ever is done to aleviate the problem will have to be soon and of a forceful nature .

I agree! The dangers of smoking are very serious! Statistically speaking, smoking harms way more people in our nation than illegal immigrants do. If you insist on smoking, please distance yourself from others so you don't cause them any harm. Thanks!

On a more serious note, I must ask Jim the following: How, specifically, has your life been impacted by all these illegal aliens? I don't think they should be allowed to break the law, but I want to know where your sense of urgency and tone of desperation is coming from.

Its interesting ,but sad , that the rate of killing at the boarder exceeds that per year in Viet Nam, I think the # exceeds 17,000 the past two years.Where is CNN? Also recollect hearing the cap of AZ. is the 2nd highest kidnap area in the world , 2nd to MEX CITY.

They seemed to be able to get here without my help. They should be able to make it back by themselves too. Send Mexico the invoice for whatever it costs to return them and if Mexico refuses to pay we could foreclose and take possession of the real estate. If we put Mexico up for auction, would it bring a decent price? Maybe Communist China will bid on Mexico. They have lots of money because stupid Americans buy cheap Chinese Electronics. How much did you guys pay China for that computer your blogging with? I say Build American, Buy American and Hire American or go do business elsewhere! At least pay a fine or something. Duh!

Giving " amnesty " or instant citizenship to illegal aliens is not and will not be fair to those who are trying and have gone through the proper and " Legal " means to becomming U.S. citizens.
The path to U.S. citizenship must be within the bounds of the " LAW " and " ENFORCED " with a force and zeal and severe punishment, so as to make those who wish to even try to enter the U.S. " ILLEGALLY " think very hard about the consequences of even attempting to do so . Amnesty or instant citizenship for " Illegal immigrants/aliens " ? Not on your life.

Those who wish to immigrate to the U.S. and become a U.S. citizen, have had a pathway to U.S. citizenship for years now. All they have to do is follow the steps set forth by the Immigration Laws and immigrate to the U.S. in a " LEGAL MANNER " . If they immigrate any other way then they are doing so " ILLEGALLY " and should be branded as Ilgal immigrants/aliens and classified as " CRIMINALS " for breaking the law of the U.S. and should be punished as such. And if you break the law, any law, you are considered a criminal and thats all there is to that .

While J walking the other day, I realized that I had just committed a crime. Of course there was no defined street crossing in sight so maybe I was just doing what everyone does. If that is the case then I'm not a criminal but an average Joe. Kind of like that "Joe the Plumber" dude who doesn't pay his taxes or that lady from Alaska who reminded me that people just love to piss on other peoples black kettles but refuse to look in the mirror to see their own black kettle sitting on the shelf behind them. America is a great place to live, work and raise a family. If the people on the outside looking in can see that then why can't we see it for ourselves? Relax, everything will be alright.

methusla..the truth of the matter is this. 180,000 individuals came to the US legally last tear from Mexico. They are on the path to US citizenship.

Today Obama said that we need to do something so these illegals are not taken advantage of in the workplace. Well, try this on for size. Come here legally, get a job and pay taxes.

In the state of AZ illegals get free health care in that they don't pay with the money they do earn.
It gets paid for by the taxpayer. They get food stamps. They get a free education. They don't pay property taxes and thats how education in the State of AZ is paid for. AZ has a 2 billion dollar deficit directly tied to the illegals. Can you imagine how much money we could save in AZ if we just bought them bus tickets to Kansas.

Tonight I see that Mexico has been granted permission to challenge SB 1070 in AZ. Can you believe that? A foreign Government can challenge a state law in AZ. Good luck guys, because your state might be next.

If the border in AZ is so safe, then can any of you tell me why Obamas speech was not in Nogales AZ. He thinks it safe for me. Why does he not bring his skinny little chicken ass down here and show us how safe it is.

Are you aware that there is a stretch of federal land that goes 30 miles deep into AZ that we as AZ citizens are advised not to enter for our own protection. Obama has posted signs on this property telling us not to enter. The Federal Gov (obama) says that this stretch of AZ is used by illegals and drug trafficers so beware.

Did you know that in this stretch of 30 miles, Mexican drug lords have look outs to inform the smugglers where the good guys are. This is a mildly mountainious region. The bad guys are on top of the mountains. Did you know that AZ law enforcement is not allowed to enter on federal land to pursue the bad guys. Now here is one you won't believe but it is true. Did you know that Obama does not allow the Border Patrol to enter into Federal land to pursue the bad guys. It is against the Obama law.

You know something dumb, Obama wants you to believe that it is OK for all of us to be against the Bush policies and big oil. Obama is a former drug addict and self confessed drug dealer. Is it any wonder that he might be open to allowing drugs to cross the border. Is it possible that he just might be profiting.

In 1969 Richard Nixon declared that we as a country had a war on drugs.

Right now today we have Mexican drug cartels bringing drugs across the Border into AZ for distribution to the rest of the US.

Now pardon me folks, but when I hear the word war certain things are brought to mind. First of all I should be allowed to defend myself against this armed invasion. And yes folks, these bad guys are heavily armed and they are invading the US of A most every day. Is the US gov not supposed to protect us from any type of armed invasion or is it only the ones the current Pres decides.

My personal belief is that we could fix all this. Let me throw out a few names that I believe would be of monumental help.

Tonight while I was driving home from work I heard on the radio that a gun battle had occurred 12 miles from the mexico/US border town of Nogales.
@21 people were killed in the shoot out between rival drug gangs.

12miles folks... from your great town of Emporia it is 12 miles to Wooster lake in Lyon County. But you all really know how close that is. These were the same Cartels that last week threatened the police force in Nogales with retaliation for a drug bust by off duty officers made on the US side of the border.

And trust me , the guys from those groups that I mentioned are not the one on active duty. I'm talking about the ones that might just want to volunteer.

And I also left out one very important group of "bad " guys. Navy seals would love this kind of duty. But all of that is for another post that I will do tomorrow.

No it is not, we have always had a presence in Afganistan, Bush was the one who ordered the troops there with no exit strat and consequently failed to commit the necessary manpower to even think about completing the task.

You really should fact check a bit more of what you say, not that I don't agree with you on some of your ideas but your posts look more like a conservative chain email.

I know that it is now cliché, but I’ve never understood what part of the concept of “illegal” some people don’t understand. A friend of mine was found guilty of DUI. He committed an illegal act. However, in return, his children did not get a free education (using the Spanish language), people did not go to his house and check on them regularly, he did not qualify for family wide health care; there was no free food and transportation.

He went to jail and served his time. You see, he was doing something ILLEGAL. Breaking the law used to have consequences. Apparently now there are only consequences for some. Others are apparently above the law. Too bad it’s not our citizens but people who CHOOSE to break the law, by the way with the help and encouragement of their own government.

Of course estimates vary but there are roughly 20 million American’s looking for jobs. There are somewhere between 15 and 30 million ILLEGALS in the country. Don’t give me that business about them doing jobs “American’s won’t do.” You see I could afford to work for 3 or 4 bucks an hour too if I lived on food stamps in government housing and had no medical bills.

Recently a teen age boy was shot by border patrol. Not once did I hear or read the headline “Mexican youth killed during the commission of a crime.” If indeed he was assaulting the patrol with rocks, as the security tape shows, that is a felony offence. He was a known human smuggler but the media painted him as an agelic honor student.

How does illegal immigration affect us in Emporia? You feel the effect every time you pay one penny in tax.

The drug war is non-winnable and anybody who thinks otherwise is a fool. We could nuke Mexico and eliminate it completely from the map and the would not stop drugs. Unfortunately, the Law of supply and demand added to profit margin will drive drugs into this country forever. Atleast two of those variables must be abolished before there can be an accomplishable mission for the war on drugs.

Right now, the mission is simply to "look" like we are doing ALL we can and to create numbers to show a declining drug problem.

Sadly, we are too busy fighting "the same team" and the net effect of that is it's not worth the fight.

Our society should focus on raising our children with Godly values so they won't get involved in drugs, pray that others do the same and forget about fighting the drug war until people start taking it seriously.

When you watch those video's, don't you think that the Pres should send some real warriors down there. These agents are not trained to do combat.
They are trained to act with constraint. I applaud them for that. Think of this, if you or I were in a war zone and the enemy threw a molotov cocktail at you, the rules of engagement would allow you to return fire. Enough said....

A 500 yd. wide " dead/kill zone " along the South Western border of the U.S. may just do the job of discouraging illegal entry into the U.S.. But that may be a little too drastic for some . However sending our young people to fight and die fighting unjustified wars thousands of miles away, in countries that do not care about or what happens to or in the U.S. does not seem to be too drastic for some. And yes there is a " War " raging right here in the U.S. against illegal immigration/immigrants, of which some or most are criminals who care nothing about the laws in their own country, let alone the laws of the U.S..
And if people think that the immigration laws of the U.S. and the States who have already enacted or are about enact their own immigration laws, the immigration laws of Mexico are much more strict as are the penaltys for illegal immigration into Mexico . The U.S. immigration laws pale in comparison.

Arizona has become a real peach of a state. I guess after watching their sheriff make an arse of himself until his name became nationally recognized, the state decided to get some national recognition too. All the Arizona population is competing with one another to become the biggest looser. In addition to the asinine anti-immigrant law, some are suggesting to cut off water, gas and electric to people who haven't proved themselves worthy of a drink of water.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio calls himself America's Toughest Sheriff but Arizona still has crime. Lots more that we have here in Kansas.

Arizona's tough new law brings them lots of publicity but it won't solve illegal immigration. I would be willing to bet that in the next ten years Arizona will still have more illegals than Kansas.

I say cut off Arizona's water rights to the Colorado River and give that extra water to California and Vegas.

If you have fantasies about illegales at least paying taxes, read Pub 17, under ‘Dependents.’ Table 3-1 is one place. Legitimate dependents are those people you support who live in the U.S., Canada, AND MEXICO.
Get it? Not the kids who live in your house, ANY ONE IN THE COUNTRY OF MEXICO WHO YOU CLAIM TO BE SUPPORTING IS YOUR DEPENDENT. It’s in the book, brethren.
Worse. If IRS DOES catch you cheating and finally pops your wages, you can’t be forced to pay back more than an amount set by law depending on your filing status and, you guessed it, number of exemptions. That’s in Form 1494. Six exemptions, for example, the first $2658.33 per month of your wages is exempt from levy.
How many illegales do you think are paying income tax in this country AT ALL? How many illegales who get caught cheating on their taxes do you think we’re collecting back taxes from?

And koalemos, perhaps the reason Arizona has a higher crime rate than Kansas is because Arizona has twice the number of illegal immigrants, that are breaking laws, than Kansas has .

What scares me is all of the above and those who want to do absolutely nothing to aleviate the growing problem.

Perhaps if people would realize that there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that there is an illegal immigration problem, meth and others could stop pointing it out repeatedly and often. Unfortunately there are too many people that would rather ignore the problem and use this opportunity to point out how greatly not racist they are and how anybody and everybody that is against illegal immigration is a racist. This issue is not about race though, it is about the law and how everyone should be required to obey the law. Look at the supposed Russian spys, nobody is raising a stink about them being picked on. I think pretty much everybody thinks they should be investigated and justice served. Why defend one groups illegal activity and not another?

Few believe there is NOT a problem with illegal immigrants. Many believe the problem lies in the prosecution of illegals that ALSO allows the persecution of legals. I believe that the Constitution protects the legal, even if they are non-Caucasians. I believe in the Constitution and am not willing to give up that protection without a fight.

Deal with the illegals in a legitimate, legal manner AND protect the citizens.

Change the language of current law from "Any employer who knowingly hires an illegal" to "Any employer who hires an illegal."

If my employer gets punished for unknowingly hiring an illegal citizen it will no doubt end up hurting me. The company will have to pay fines which will surely come out of my future paychecks and that is less money I pay taxes on and pump back into the economy. We all lose. You see illegals don't make it easy for employers to know they are illegal. They are very good at getting fake papers and providing each other with fake papers. If companies aggressively check these documents and scrutinize them, you same people that are now advocating these employers not hire illegals will complain that the companies are "profiling" and being "racists" and "naughty". You will complain and cry racism no matter what is done. You really don't want anything done, just admit it.

For one, the meat packing industry is not the only industry to hire "could be" illegals and if hired through a temp service the company has very little way of knowing who is coming through the doors to work. For two, if these companies did crack down on illegal immigrants you folks would complain that they aren't being nice to those poor illegals and you'd get the ACLU to sue the companies for taking away the rights of the illegals. Third, it is not the job of companies to keep people from entering our borders illegally, that is the job of our government. When the Arizona government got tired of waiting for our federal government to do something they did something and people complained. I bet if the federal government did anything the same people would complain. I honestly believe these complainers would complain no matter what was done and they really just don't want anything done. That's fine you can have your opinion. We will have to agree to disagree. Just try for once to be honest about what your opinion actually is. I do agree that if companies are knowingly hiring illegals they should be investigated and punished accordingly but that in no way exonerates the individuals that knowingly entered this country illegally. Guilty is guilty.

How can you believe in doing something about the illegal immigrant problem, especially when the biggest problem is illegal immigrants of a certain skin color and turn around and say that you believe that is not right ? With that type of logic, then that means that when anyone, no matter what their skin color may be, are being persecuted, whether they are legal, illegal or native .
Good lord, how many times has it been pointed out, that the legal immigrants, etc., shouldn' t or wouldn' t have a problem, if they broke the law, showing an officer of the law, their papers or I.D..
Do you believe you are being persecuted if and when an officer of the law stops you for an illegal turn, lane change, failure to stop at a traffic light or stop sign or an accident or a simple drivers license check lane and asks for some form of legitimate/legal form of Identification ?

Actually, I totally agree! Illegal is illegal and breaking the law is bad.

Of course every coin has two sides and it is wise to ensure there is both a heads and a tails before agreeing to the results of a coin toss.

That is the problem we have with the issue of illegal immigration today...Well, that is the problem with just about every issue we will ever face as a free society.

Politicians are cheating by having a two headed coin in one pocket and a two tailed coin in the other. The electorate (that's us) want to hear what we want to hear before giving up our precious vote. Since we are too stupid to read 1500 pages simply because it is 1500 pages and we are told by our politicians that that's too many pages to be forced to read (BTW they wrote it), the politicians make things simple for us by telling us what it says in 6 words or less. Kind of like flipping a coin. Heads they win, tails we loose and Vice Versa depending on what they want us to think.

Where do I begin? Government is not the solution, government is the problem. Well, that is unless it suits us as with the Arizona government solution. In that case we need more government solutions. But, when it comes to Obamacare or anything Obama related, we demand the government stay out of the business of protecting us. Of course we loved to allow government intrusion into our most private communications when Bush said he needed to listen in for our protection. I suppose nothing will ever make us safe because somewhere along the way, Americans drew a line in the sand and half of you ran to the left, the other half ran to the right and both sides brag that they have the majority. I prefer to maintain my freedom so I refuse to play that game. I think it is called Divide and Conquer where the pit left vs right, rich vs poor, strong vs weak, light vs dark...etc...

That is about as Fair and Balanced as I can get so please don't tell me that I'm taking one side or the other because I read all 1500 pages. Front and back. I see there is good in evil and evil in good depending on how you look at things. I'm glad to see you do too.

And there are approx. 12 million of them that are getting a basically free ride, compliments of the U.S. government and legal taxpaying citizens, some of who don' t care to demand the govt. put a stop to the raping of the U.S. and its legal taxpaying citizens.
I salute and commend Arizona and any and all states who have the courage to step up and say, " enough is enough " and are willing to do something about a growing and festering problem .

President Obama want's to sign Immigration Reform into law. The problem he has is Congress doesn't want to send him a bill to sign until after the upcoming elections. The Republicans blame the Democrats claiming that they want the Hispanic vote. The Democrats blame the Republicans claiming that they want the Tea Party vote. The fact of the matter is neither the Republicans and the Democrats running for elected office will go on record stating exactly what they will or will not do regarding Immigration Reform. Both Parties use really vague language when speaking on this issue because both sides want to have their cake and eat it too.

When I was a kid, (about 8 years old), I screwed up and left the barn door open as I did my chores. When I returned there was about 50 sheep inside the barn eating the feed and about 70 more outside trying to get in the barn door. I tried to push the sheep out but as I would get 10 out, 10 more came right in. I shut the door but then I couldn't get any out. I tried tossing some feed outside to lure them out but that didn't work so well. I finally gave up and ignored the problem. The next day my grandpa was angry because there was a bunch of dead sheep in the barn. They couldn't force themselves to stop eating and just bloated up and died. I really don't know what can be learned from this lesson, but I'll never forget it.

Sure, I was partly to blame for leaving the door open. But, grandpa was the one who chose to have easy access to the grain by storing it in an uncontrolled location. Today, I keep the grain secured inside the barn and I keep the door shut. Yeah, sometimes a sheep will get in but when it discovers that it can't get to the feed, it just departs out the same way it got in.

Politicians want us to believe that if we just keep the door shut, all our illegal immigration problems will go away. Others believe that the solution is to secure the prize and the illegals will have no reason to come through the gate. I believe that the solution isn't that simple and that we must do a little of both. Keep the door as secure as practical and to keep the grain out of reach as best we can. Sheep might stray inside the barn but they will soon discover that there is nothing to be gained and go back to where they belong.

Amendment 14 - Citizenship Rights. Ratified 7/9/1868. Note History

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

The key words in this Amendment are persons, born, naturalized, subject to the jurisdiction there of, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.
There is no mention in the Constitution about whether an illegal immigrant/alien who is/was not born in the U.S. or a legally naturalized citizen of the U.S. is afforded the same protections under the Constitution or any of the Amendments as a " LEGAL CITIZEN " of the U.S. .
As I see it, if the FED is not going to satisfactorily enforce the illegal immigration/immigrant laws, then the States themselves have the obligation and Duty to do so .

I honestly do understand why they want to come here as I have stated before but what is bothersome is what other laws will they be willing to break in order to pursue a better life for themselves? What if a group of them feels that gang raping my daughter would bring them much joy and thus a better life, is that cool? Is that cool with you? We certainly can't tell them that it is wrong because we've pretty much already told them that breaking the law is ok as long as it's in the name of pursuing a better life for yourself. I didn't know of this until it was pointed out to me.

Back during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the
deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American
citizens that desperately needed work..

Harry Truman deported over two million Illegal's after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans'.

And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million
Mexican Nationals! The program was called
'Operation Wetback'. It was
done so WWII and Korean Veterans would have a better chance at jobs.
It took 2 Years, but they deported them!

Now...if they could deport the illegal's back then - they could sure do it today.

So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people
like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept
this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when
there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the
United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a
long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get
down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made
a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in
good and bad times. They made learning English a primary
rule in their new American households and some even changed
their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their
children a new life and did everything in their power to
help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was
handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws
to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out.
My father fought along side men whose parents had come
straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None
of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought
about what country their parents had come from. They were
Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of
Japan . They were defending the United States of America as
one people.

When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking
for the French-American or the German American or the Irish
American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we
carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of
those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up
another country's flag and waving it to represent who they
were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had
sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew
what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting
pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

I'm with seriously on this matter. Those sheep know damn well there is grain there and one way or another, they will figure out how to get it. They will not be satisfied with going back to where they belong once they know there is grain to be had.

Those sheep aren't stupid. Perhaps one of those "sheep" will learn how to make a fake identification card or driver's license or steal a social security card and he'll share it with the others who will band with him to make more. They will turn it into a business and charge other sheep for those secret ways to get more grain. Once that happens, and those cards are honored, nothing will stop them. For every sheep caught and slaughtered, ten others have learned how to cheat the farmer and his family. Why? Because the grain is that good. Going back to where they belong means eating scrub grass. Who wants that when there's prime grain?

For some states that means huge costs offset by very little revenue." These facts are just the tip of the iceburt.

You do open a can of worms though. If fake I.D.'s are so easy to get, and so hard to distinguish from real ones, what makes yours and mine so valid? Is it because ours is real or are ours just good forgeries? How can Obama prove his birth certificate is real to people who are convinced it's a fake? If we cannot trust the citizenship documents of the President of the United States then what good will it do for a Hispanic American to present his U.S. Birth Certificate to an Arizona State Trooper?

Immigration is a NATIONAL issue. Yes, some individual states are effected more than others but having all the illegals flee Arizona into other states is not much different than say...Emptying Kansas' Prisons by giving each inmate a one way ticket to Phoenix, Arizona so that Kansans can save some money and lower crime.

Like I said earlier, all I got is 2 cents and a plug nickle so congress won't listen to my ideas. They have their hands in deeper pockets and as long as companies who use illegal labor to increase profits contribute to campaigns, we will continue to see Mexican flags proudly displayed in towns like Emporia, Kansas.

This issue is really complex and will require at least 3,000 double sided pages, single spaced printed in small font to even come close to making everyone happy. As we all know, that's too many pages for anyone in America to read, let alone understand. So, I guess we can feel good that we will have a controversial subject to argue over for decades to come.

dalelinn, It's not just health care. Kansas passed legislation back in 2004 allowing illegal aliens to pay in state tuition at Kansas' public colleges and universities. Children of Kansas' native born citizens have to compete with illegal immigrants and the children of illegal immigrants for class seats, financial aid and private scholarships. U.S. Citizens even have to compete with children of illegal aliens for Federal Student Aid.

It is laws like this one that makes me really cynical about any immigration law that might be passed by any state or even the feds. I do know that privately owned and operated prisons throughout the united states really like tougher sentences for illegals. It's about the money. Colleges and universities push for laws allowing in state tuition and financial aid for illegals. It's about the money. Hospitals and health care providers fight any moves to deny health care to illegals. It's about the money. Social service providers fight any move to restrict services to illegals. It's about the money. Corporate employers fight any attempts to make it easier to prove they knowingly hire illegals to cut labor costs. It's about the money. Americans screamed at the top of their lungs and congress decided spend our money to build a fence along the border between Mexico and the US but that is about the money too. We will pay for it but I doubt we will ever get it.

It will not take a 3000 page, double sided, single spaced document to resolve the illegal immigrant problem.
However what it will take is a person sitting in the highest seat in the land, the presidency and a Congress that has the courage and lack of greed and corruption to cause the full, to the letter, meaningful enforcement of the current immigration laws and the enforcement, meeting, following of the requirements to immigrate to the U.S., as well as the enforcement of all of the Employer requirements for the hiring of immigrants and if that requires allowing the States to do the job, then that should be all well and good. dalelinn makes an excellent point about health care being a huge drain. Let me add, that it's not just the public welfare system that loses, but private enterprise suffers too when doctors and hospitals experience huge losses.

The drain on the public health system was primarily my point when the Somali people were here and I was so vociferous about that issue. But I was called a racist and a fear mongerer for my concerns.

Ours isn't the only country suffering the problems involved with illegal immigration. One example is In Germany where they have similar problems with people from Turkey.

Then to watch them pull out a baseball sized wad of bills from their pocket to pay for their beer. If Tyson spends the $400-$800 to bring in a temporary worker from Mexico, that temporary worker is not illegal. If that temporary worker pays the $1000-$2000 fee and applies for permanent residence, it could take up to three years for the government to decide his case. Between the time that his temporary status expires and his permanent status is decided he is undocumented but not illegal. There are millions of undocumented, yet legal people here who have paid thousands of dollars in fees waiting for our government to make a decision on their application packet.

Our police personnel are trained to enforce laws but they are not lawyers. They have very little training in immigration law. That is why we ask them to refer immigration law questions to the INS for assistance.

It's not unlike the local sheriff requesting assistance with the unexploded bomb shell they discovered recently.

Ignorance and fear should never be mixed because nothing good can come of it. JMO

I never said or even insinuated that it was an easy or cheap process. But it is the Lawful, Legal, required process for coming to, entering into or working in the the U.S., legally. And if what you say is fact I commend you and your wife for taking the steps to do the right and legal thing . I certainly hope your wife was worth the effort and expense. But that is the way the system works or is supposed to work. I fully realize that the process is expensive, time consuming and frustating, but nothing, worth having in life is either quick, free or easy nor do I believe that it is demeaning.
Just think, how demeaning to all those it must be, who took the time, spent the money, to become legal U.S. citizens.
Not to mention how demeaning it is to those legal U.S. citizens who are out of work and can find no work, because an illegal immigrant has the job instead. Have you ever been without a job for any length of time and could not find one because persons who may be an illegal immigrant have them. Well I have and for quite a while at one juncture, in my life.
I personally have worked jobs that even an illegal immigrant would not do and they were hard, physically demanding jobs, that even big, strong, physically fit college football players tried to do, but either would not or could not do and these jobs were in some of the worst conditions going. So don' t preach to me about demeaning, or jobs only illegal immigrants would/will do, because that is a very large load of crap.

It's all in a plastic bag that will fit in your top shirt pocket. I learned to carry five elastic cords that could used with my poncho to make a nice dry roof. He was speeding through a 10 mph zone in a trailer park with children. My daughter was driving and because she was backing out of the trailer parking, she was issued the only ticket. The officer could not ask him if he was here legally and only tipped his hand to his mouth to ask him if he had been drinking, Did'nt give him a test to see if he had been drinking. My daughter was not seriously injured and was lucky. This person would have been a good subject for the officer to have the ability to ask for legal papers. He is still driving the same vehicle today, with an illegal license!

I had a somewhat similar situation about 2 years ago. At that time I used to carpool from the Flint Hills Mall. We would leave our vehicle there and carpool to work. We returned one day, only to find my truck had been t-boned. Luckily, the culprit damaged his truck so bad he couldn't leave the scene. Unfortunately, however, he was Hispanic, uninsured, the truck he was driving wasn't registered in his name and it turned out the address he provided to the police was false. When he realized I was planning on pressing charges, he offered to pay for the damages to the truck, directly to Thurstons. I didn't press charges (regretfully now) and he stiffed Thurstons. I'm watching the news. I personally hope Arizona wins their case!

Nice bit of information above by the way, meth. I'm gathering as much info as I can on the incumbents (the crap they're putting out on television ads is just that-crap). More voters really need to know the truth about these "politicians" and "fire" the ones that have been sitting back and doing nothing but pointing fingers, keeping their special interest groups/lobbyists happy (and their pockets full in the process) and not supporting the American majority (working middle class, LEGAL American citizens) for the last 10 to 15 years (the time period that unemployment, the housing market and the economy has been declining).

I was rear-ended by a guy with no insurance once. He was light-skinned, spoke English, and the car was registered in his name. I still suspect he was an illegal immigrant, however, because he did me harm and he didn't have any auto insurance. Only illegals could get away with something like that; never a real citizen! I think we need to create a law that allows the cops to deport white guys with mullets because (from my one-time experience) they are all poor drivers with no insurance and therefore illegal immigrants.

A DD 214 is a form issued to all service personal who are being discharged or seperated from military service. The form lists the veterans condition of discharge such as Honorable, Dishonorable, bad conduct, etc., as well as any medals, badges, citations, etc. the veteran may have recieved while in the service, as well as unit they served with, etc.. In short it is their discharge or seperation papers.

Interesting turn the conversation took. My DD214 is registered with the county clerk like they told me to do when I got out. With all the talk about medals and such I was thinking about how U.S. citizenship is like the greatest honor one can receive on this rock. Most people on here seem to agree with 'enry that a person shouldn't be given any special gratitude or anything for their military service, I tend to disagree. His and perhaps your opinion on that does make it easier for me to understand why so many people think that being here illegally is A OK. Soon(this is my prediction) people that are here illegally will get "amnesty" and be rewarded with citizenship. They break the law and will get the highest honor for it. What about law abiding citizens? How will they be rewarded for their good behavior? Oh! They won't. That seems weird to a guy like me. See I think that if anyone is to be rewarded it probably ought to be the dudes and dudetttes that are doing the right thing. However to those that see absolutely no distinction between a crack dealer and decorated military veteran, I guess rewarding a criminal with the highest honor makes some sort of sense. I still just don't see the logic in it but there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. The criminals will get their pardon and reward. The border will remain very easy to get across illegally. We will forget about all this and in 20 years, if the U.S. remains, we will go through this again and a new set of criminals will get their pardon and reward. It all just makes me ponder why I even try to do the right thing and obey the laws ..... oh yeah ..... I have a conscience.

As far as any " honors " bestowed upon me while serving, I did not want them, as I felt that those who paid the ultimate price, protecting me and their fellow combatants deserved the honors much more than I . You are sooooooo right. When we applied for "assistance" to enter my first 2 children in college, they said "my income is too high to qualify".

We recently tried to refinance our house to pay off some major outstanding debt (I was unemployed for about a year and used up everything we had saved). They initially turned us down, why, because I "don't make enough" (something to do with a debt to income ratio being too high).

When we go to register the remaining children for the next school year, do you think I qualify to go in the line to get reduced fees, not! (I "make too much").

I like lettuce. It goes great with salad and it adds a little texture and crunch to a sandwich. I grow my own lettuce during this time of year but when it gets cold out I just buy lettuce in the store. That lettuce comes from California and Arizona. The people who pick the lettuce are primarily illegal migrant workers. Once the harvest is completed in California, these workers usually travel to Arizona to begin the harvest there. This year, the migrant workers are worried about Arizona's new law and they are talking about just not going to Arizona to pick the lettuce there. If that happens there will be a lettuce shortage this winter. I suppose the price of lettuce will go as high as five dollars a head. Now you might not think that lettuce is important but people who work in salad dressing factories are watching these developments with worried eyes.

You know REWBA, even cheap labor costs someone more in the long run and that cost is/will be more than you think.
I suppose, using your logic, if there were more low paid illegal immigrants working in the oil and refining industry or the auto industry or any industry the prices of that particular industrys' product would be cheaper ! You had better think again. For instance China has one of the lowest paid labor forces in the world and yet the products coming from China are some of the cheapest made products in the world and yet most of these products are not that much lower in price than any other product and if they are lower in price ... they usually end up being junk.

Remember that many of those agricultural workers have green cards through their employers. Yes, I realize that many do not. Still, even though I believe firmly that people here illegally are breaking the law and should be deported, I also believe that it is inhumane to take advantage of these workers by paying them a lower wage just because they are here illegally. I have already worked over 40 years of my life and some of the work was for $1.50 an hour and was harder work, in working conditions that a migrant worker wouldn' t even consider . Hell, I have put up hay at the age of 14 and was paid 2 to 4 cents a bail, in 100+ degree weather and did it all day long from near sun up to sun set .
Ive, paid my dues and have to prove nothing to noone, least of all an illegal immigrant . I am worried about and fighting for the future generations of Legal American citizens and I don' t mean those born to illegal immigrants that just happen to be in the U.S., " Illegally ", either.

There are also quite a few other questions that I posed that remain to be answered such as, which other laws should not apply to this group that many feel immigration laws should not apply to? I actually have an appreciation for the laws of this country because I know that they protect me and my family and this brings me comfort when I am away at work. I would like to know if laws such as breaking and entering would apply to this special group that the immigration laws apparently shouldn't apply to? Recently we had a group of people bust into a few apartments here in town and they took some stuff. I don't know what group these people belong to but I assume it must have been one of the groups of people that the laws apply to because the police got involved and what not. What if it was the above the law group? Would the people that got there stuff stolen just be out of luck? Couldn't the people who took the stuff say "Hey, when you let us break the immigration laws we just assumed that that meant we can pick and choose which laws apply to us."? I'm really not comfortable knowing that there are people going around that are allowed to break the laws that are designed to protect my family. Perhaps if they made a list of which laws they would like to follow and which ones they don't feel like following, we could negotiate and I'd feel a little better. How pathetic is that when a law abiding upright citizen veteran has to follow the laws and we allow someone who is commiting a crime pick and choose which laws apply to them. I guarantee if I got caught committing a crime I'd be locked up quicker than something that is really really fast like a cheetah or something.

If you are here in America and you commit a crime, you should be punished to the full extent that the law allows. If the law allows you to be deported, so be it. I'm all for enforcing laws. I'm for enforcing laws against people who try to enter our county in violation of the law. I'm also in favor of prosecuting the people who hire illegals. I'm in favor of deporting people who are not supposed to be here. I'm opposed to providing housing assistance, food stamps, low income heating assistance, social services including health care and education for illegals. That is my stance.

With that said, I'm also a realist. People get into our country in violation of our laws. People hire illegals and get away with it. Our government doesn't deport every illegal immigrant that they catch breaking other laws. illegals are provided taxpayer funded services and they depress wages for American citizens.

I'm for immigration reform! Let's make it happen!

As far as immigration reform goes . I am not really advocating immigration reform.
The present immigration laws are pretty straight forward, as is. Therefore, what I believe is needed, is, more forceful and aggressive enforcement of the present immigration laws and a much larger enforcement force itself, especially along the border and each and every entrance point into the U.S.. Using the National Guard or/and Army reserve to help with the enforcement of border watches, with the authority to detain, make arrests and even returning fire, if fired upon and the use of deadly force if necessary .

And aggressively showing all illegal immigrants, as well as those who hire illegal immigrants, already in the U.S. that they are not safe and will be hunted down, found out, arrested and deported, or prosecuted and punished, without prejudice and to the fullest extent of the law, no matter whether they are Brown, Black, Yellow, Green, Blue or Red or Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Mexican, Honduran, Saudi, French, German, Icelandic, Canadian or what ever country they are from or what business they are engaged in, no exceptions.
The immigration law of the U.S. is/should not be a law to be scourned, usurped, bypassed, sidestepped or disregarded by anyone who is thinking of or wants to immigrate to the U.S. and wishes or intends to legally become a citizen of the U.S. or any other country with immigration laws in place .
There is the right/legal way to do something/immigrate and the wrong/illegal way to do something/immigrate, is just one.

If this nation and some in this nation continue to molly coddle these illegal immigrants, as well as those who illegally hire illegal immigrants, they will continue to thumb their noses at the U.S./AMERICA , its laws and its people.

I was very shocked that within 12 hours after 911 our borders and ports were not locked down and immediately closed. We are no more secure now than we were before 911! Arizona is merely wanting to enforce the Laws already in existence that our Federal Government refuses to enforce. If the Federal Government doesn't get off their duffs and start doing something, I can see this thing going into the streets. Our last Civil War was over States Rights. At times like these, I can't help but think about those young Americans who accidentally stepped across the border into Iran and how quickly they were imprisoned. We all expected them to be put to death.

Our border with Mexico is so porous, even if they wanted to after 9-11, they couldn't have locked it up. But yes, rabblerouser, you're right about terrorists from any country in the world easily using that entry.

With no change to our immigration laws, there is little chance that our illegal immigrant problem will change.

Currently, anyone born on U.S. soil is automatically a native born U.S. citizen. It really doesn't matter that one or both parents are illegal immigrants. I believe that should change.

People who enter the US with a tourist visa are "checked in" but there is no one ensuring that they "check out". Tourist visa's are good for 90 days. I know of an old dude who came from El Salvador to visit family in Emporia on his 90 day tourist visa. That was two years ago and he is still here.

The reason we have a certain number of border patrol agents is because of a law. If we want more border patrol agents, congress has to change the law to allow for more.

Our Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have caught big corporations establishing temporary work agencies and using those agencies to provide themselves with cheap illegal labor. When it goes to court, the government cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the companies "knowingly" hired illegals. That word needs to be removed from the law. Companies who hire illegals "knowingly" or not should be fined and it's executives should be imprisoned for a few years.

There are so many loopholes to current immigration law that enforcement is futile. We do need immigration reform. IMHO

A good start to a satisfactory immigration reform, if a complete reform is in fact necessary , is to start with a more aggressive enforcement of the current immigration laws, instead of the federal government sitting around with their thumbs up their arses and doing nothing.
As for the " goof " Obama trying to flex his muscles and suing any State for attempting to do his and the congress job as law makers and enforcers of the law they are succeeding in tearing this nation apart and bankrupting it and the legal taxpayers.

I can guarantee you that if the Feds do not block the Arizona bill before it goes into affect on July 29th there will be a whole lot less illegals in Arizona on July 30th. Guaranteed!!! If the Federal Government would give all States the ability to enforce the laws already on our books, we would not have to deport near as many as one might think. Many would voluntarily leave. Just as they would if you took the cheap labor jobs away by slapping huge fines on the Employers who hire them. Years ago before we had this problem, the crops still got picked and the lawns got mowed and the unemployment rate was not near as high. Elliminate the cheese and the mice will leave!

"They're really tightening the screws," said Mario Ortiz, an undocumented Mexican worker who came to Houston after leaving Phoenix last year. "There have been a lot coming - it could be 100 a day."

In Tulsa, Okla., the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has estimated that 15,000 to 25,000 illegal immigrants have left the area. One builder estimated that 30 percent of the Hispanic work force left Tulsa.

"There's been a tremendous impact in Oklahoma City," said David Castillo, the executive director of the Greater Oklahoma City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "We've had several companies close shop and leave the state. Banks have called us and say they're closing 30 accounts per week."

Enrique Hubbard, Mexico's consul general in Dallas, said a dozen Mexican families from Oklahoma have applied for consular documents listing their new homes in the Dallas area. He expects more to arrive because jobs are available in north Texas.

Texas' reputation as a welcoming destination has experts predicting more immigrants will come to Houston and other cities in the state. Texas has not passed any statewide law targeting the employment of undocumented workers.

"Texas is still very much an entrepreneurial place, where you can find your place in this economy," said James Hollifield, a Southern Methodist University professor and migration expert. "It's not an immigrant's paradise, but if you work hard and keep your head down you can get ahead."

Ortiz, a native of southern Mexican state of Tabasco, said he left Phoenix eight months ago working 60 to 70 hours a week as a nursery worker. While now he can only pick up two to three days a week of yardwork and barely earns enough to send back to his family, he prefers to be in Texas.

I do have grandchildren and great grandchildren in the public school system and none of them get any " free " government taxpayer subsidised education . Why is that ? It is because my Son, Daughter and Granddaughters' families all make above the guideline to recieve education assistance . I have asked myself this question many, many times. Why shoud I, any of my family or anyone or their families, who are legal citizens of the U.S., have to pay for their childrens education, as well as pay for the education of an illegal immigrants child, even those children who are born to illegal immigrants living in the U.S., " illegally ', because they choose to " skirt " the laws of the U.S. and choose to remain an " illegal immigrant " in order to avoid paying the taxes that support the public education system in the U.S. and the States. ? And the answer I keep coming up with, is, because the Federal Government, State governments and our elected leaders in the Federal Government and State government do not want to or demand a more aggressive enforcement of the immigration laws of the U.S., for their own, greedy purposes .
I am sure that we all know what the term " upside down " means when referring to any of our personal fininacial situations. Well our governments, Federal, State and local, have put our school fininancial system in an " upside down " situation by putting the children of illegal immigrants on the list, to recieve, government subsidized, taxpayer funded, " free " education .

The overwhelming influx of " illegal immigrant " children into the public school system of the U.S. is biggest contributing reason for the predicament that public school finance is now experiencing . JMO

methusla, actually, the school finance I was referring to has nothing to do with subsidies. That is a separate matter regarding enrollment fees and school lunches which is based on income. I'm sorry I didn't make that clear.

The state finances the public school system according to the head count at each school.

The cutoff date is September 20 of each year when schools must report their number enrolled to the state. The state then pays each school district approximately $4,000 per student. I don't know the exact amount without looking it up, but that's close.

If there is a lesser headcount at the schools due to an exodus of illegal immigrants, how will communities make up the deficit?

Also if the illegal immigrant children head count goes down, that should mean that the legal citizen taxpayers of the city, county, school districts should not have to pay the same amount as they did, when illegal immigrant children were in the school system/district. And here is where I totally disagree with the policy of children born to illegal immigrants in the U.S. becoming citizens of the U.S. automatically . This policy is and has been a drain on the legal taxpayers of the U.S. for many decades now, and should be changed and the sooner the better. If the school district administrators or school administrators cannot or will not cut spending, because of a lower student head count and continue to demand the same amount of money/expenditures as before the lower student head count/enrollment, then it is/would be time for a thourough house cleaning at the school district/school administration level. JMO

It is my opinion, that the 14th amendment which was ratified on July 9th, 1868, approx. 2 years and 3 months after the end of the Civil War. And the only reason that the 14th amendment to the Constitution was adopted and ratified was because noone at the time knew what to do with 4 million newly freed African Slaves.
I really don' t think, the leaders of the country at the time realized what a problem this amendment would become to the U.S. and its people. I also believe that part of the 14th. amendment that automatically gives citizenship to anyone born in the U.S. should either be repealed or re-written to exclude those born to illegal immigrants either one illegal immigrant parent or two illegal immigrant parents .

Methusia...Todays news is this. Two state workers are responsible for this list. They have been suspended pending an investigation that may or may not send them to jail for reporting the illegal activity of being in our country illegally. WOW.. we may send an American to jail but not someone who is really breaking the law. I think my Defence would be that I was entrapped. If these people were not here illegally, then I would not have been forced to report them.

By the way....the information that these two reported on came from the food stamp system in Utah. Thats the system in AZ that is called DES and supplies Food stamps, Healthcare and Financial aid to those who need it.

Being white and living here legally is not the criteria. Your income is. You do not qualify because I'm guessing you have a job or some kind of savings to rely on.

If you were a single custodial parent without a job, or any other means of support, you would qualify. My friend's son who is white, qualified when he lost his job last year because he is the custodial parent of two children and receives no child support.

Apparantely some government employees are as fed up with the illegal immigration and fraud being perpetrated by illegal immigrants/aliens as nearly everyone else who is a " legal " citizen of the U.S. . It would seem that our Federal Government, President, Senate and House of Representatives are not too overly concerned about illegal immigration/immigrants/aliens . And if the Federal Government is going to do nothing agressivly about the illegal immigration/immigrant/alien problem then it is going to be up to the States and the " legal " U.S. citizens to take up the " cause " and do something about it them selves, even if they are government empolyees.
I also say that if this list of names was actually gotten from a food stamp benefit list and there are illegal immigrants on the list receiving taxpayer funded food stamps, funded by " legal " U.S. citizen taxpayers, then those who over see the food stamp benefit program and have allowed illegal immigrants to recieve food stamps should be punished for taking part in " Defrauding " the Government and the " legal " taxpaying citizens of the U.S. .

There are a lot of U.S. Citizens who call themselves "single mothers" who receive taxpayer assistance for food, clothing, housing, medical cards, and other low income subsidies all the while allowing their "babies daddy" to live with them and not reporting his contributions to the household income. Maybe while we are going after cheats, we stick it to the single mothers too. Hey, what about all those wealthy Americans who liquidate grandmas assets so she can qualify for paupers rates at the nursing home? And while we are at it, we cannot forget the American land owners who strategically divide up their land into sections so that everyone in the extended family can receive farm subsidies. There are so many cheats in America but they will all tell you that what they are doing is totally legitimate.

Everybody is worried about paying the illegals way home, look what's happening in Arizona. They are leaving in mass, just like they came there. Throw the employers of illegals in jail, make the employers pay their way back to wherever they came from, whether it be Mexico or China, and the situation improves. I would be glad to pay more for vegetables if I knew I wasn't having to pay for the illegals Food Stamps and whatever other benefits they receive, to me it would be a good deal to again be a law-abiding nation.

This group of people have always had a legal pathway to citizenship . All they have/had to do was follow the rules, regulations, requirements and immigration laws set forth by the government of the U.S.. Most all the worlds countries have immigration laws for immigrants to follow and abide by, and if they do so, they are on their way to becomming citizens of that Country.
But millions of immigrants choose not to try and become citizens " Legally " and choose to enter the U.S. by " Illegal " means be labled " Illegal immigrants/aliens by their own choosing and now they believe they are being racially profiled, discriminated against and are now trying to dictate law to the States, people and the very Country they entered " Illegally " . Those who are here, in the U.S. " Illegally " do not derserve an easy path to U.S. Citizanship. What they do deserve is an easy path to "Deportation", arrest, prison and/or fines and not necessarily in that order.

I'm not jealous...if I wanted more, I could sacrifice time with my family to get it. I won't. What I am is a believer in obeying the law. So if you come park in front of my house on the "no parking" side of the street, I will tell you to move, or call the police on you. Same if I find out you're residing here illegally. Illegal is illegal. Period.
If you are a legal resident (natural born or naturalized) and are in need, I will share anything and everything I can with you. You can borrow one of my cars and I will ride my bike. I will sleep on my couch or floor and you can sleep on my bed until we can get you set up more comfortably. This is NOT an issue of charitability.

I can't help but think about my garden and the people up the street who used to steal my vegetables and apples. I finally caught them doing it. One of them was here illegally. Yes, I called the police, and they're gone now. When the one was deported, the rest followed him back to Mexico.

Those people had just as much space in their back yard as I did. Why didn't those thieving bastards grow their own fruit and vegetables? They had jobs. They lived there over a year, long enough to grow something from seed. Couldn't they buy seed like I did? Couldn't they dig up the ground like I did? I did much of it with hand tools, a little at a time, because I'm not strong enough to wrestle with a tiller. I would have been happy to lend them a pick and shovel. But no, they had to break into my yard in the dead of night and steal my tomatoes and peppers and cucumbers. They had to climb my apple tree and not only steal my apples, but they broke branches and left them on the ground! Damn them!!

Can you see the connection, fromaglance? Keep your illegal aliens out of my garden and out of my country because you are stealing the fruits of my labor. You didn't freaking ask, you just stole!!!

I have seen plenty of human atrocities and mans inhumanity toward his fellowman man in my lifetime, so do not preach to me about being a christian, humanity and the like . And if the illegal immigrants had any humanity they would take the prescribed and legal path that is available to them to become legal U.S. citizenship they would not be hunted and disliked as " illegal immigrants ". But No, they just want to take the road that is quicker and seemingly easier to them, no matter who it may hurt or what it may cost someone else by doing so.
Therefore fromaglance my humanity and compassion lies with those immigrants who take the legal pathway afforded to them for legal U.S. citizenship.

My illegal alien neighbors grow their own garden and are very nice. The only problem I had with them was that they would go pee in the alley and I was worried that they were peeing on my cucumbers. Every time I caught them out in the alley draining excess beer, I would tell them not to pee on my fence cause I have cucumbers growing there. They would deny urinating on my cucumbers and assure me that they would never do that. My instinct, intuition, gut feeling or whatever it's called caused me doubts so I installed an electric fence throughout the area of my cucumbers. It didn't take long to discover that they were not being honest to me when they said they wouldn't pee on my cucumbers. They were shocked! But, they don't pee in the alley any more. lol

What is it that has made it possible for this country to prosper? For hard working people to achieve their dreams? It is the laws that protect them and allow them to go to work and not have to worry too much about their "apple trees" getting stripped bare. The law is very important in this country.
Immigration is also an important part of this country. It always has been.
Remember those old Reese's peanut-butter cup commercials where one dude's chocolate got into the other dude's peanut-butter and the one dude said "Your chocolate got into my peanut-butter!" and the other dude said "Your peanut-butter is on my chocolate!"? Well long story short, they both tried it and liked it. That's how the law and immigration should be. Both mingled together. Legal immigration.
People say that these illegal immigrants just want to come here and obey the laws and become citizens. It is hard for a lot of us to believe this since the first act of these illegal immigrants is to break the law. You must admit that that is not really a good start. Another thing that confuses me about the whole just wanting to come here and be citizens is the loyalty many of them still have for the country they are fleeing from. If there is this love and desire for the U.S. and to be a citizen why do we see flags flying and flags stickers and flag license plates on cars etc. from these country's that have all these "atrocities" that these people are fleeing? These things do not add up.
I am not against immigration reform. If we need to look at and change our immigration policy so people who legitimately want to come here ,work hard, and obey the law that is ok. There must be some understanding on the part of the immigrants, though, that if you want to be a U.S. citizen your loyalty must be to the U.S. It is in the oath to become a citizen and ... well ... it's just common sense. If you have to flee from a place there is probably pretty good reason to do so. It just makes sense that the country you are fleeing to is superior in some way and more worthy of you allegiance than the "atrocity" filled country you came from. I just don't understand how someone could not see the obvious logic in that. The following is the oath one must take to become a citizen. I was born here but I have taken a similar oath and have sacrificed for this country so I understand the attraction this country has. I understand why people want to come here. I welcome them. I also understand the need for laws for this country's success. I welcome all immigrants who have the same loyalty to this country and it's laws. If our current laws are stopping some who are willing to come here and pledge allegiance to this country, forsake their old one, and follow our laws then we should seriously consider reforming them.

Just because the process to become a legal resident takes an enormous amount of time, just because MOST of them want a better life for themselves and their families, just because they believe that America is the promise land is NO reason to come to this country. They should stay behind and live in squalor, just like we Americans would do if the roles were reversed. Just like our ancestors did when they didn't come to America.

Yup, seriously, I am Irish AND American, and proud of both. I was born and raised here. So was my father, his father, and his father, back to the mid-1800s. Like everyone else in this county, including Native Americans, we all come from somewhere else. Doesn't mean I don't pledge allegiance and doesn't mean I'm not proud of who I am.

Take issue of it, if you feel you must. Deny your own heritage if that's what you want. I won't. It's who I am and I won't deny it for you, Methusla or anyone else.

The oath I posted isn't something I just made up. It is the actual oath that people are required to take when they become citizens. I think it is implied that those of us that are born here should feel the same. I'm sorry you don't feel that way.

I think I was 20 or 21 when I found out "what I am" ancestry speaking. Had I known that information all those years it would not have made one difference in my life. How do I know this? Because it has not made one difference since. I just don't see the importance or the logic in being proud of the way we are born. It not a personal achievement. Being proud of where one is born when it is a horrible "atrocity" filled country makes even less sense to me. I totally understand being proud of coming here and becoming a citizen. That makes sense, you leave a not so good place and come to a better one. That is a good decision. I totally get that and encourage that (done in a legal manner of course). What I don't get is being proud of the place that one had to flee from. I have asked many times here and elsewhere if someone could explain it to me but have received no lucid answer. If someone could explain I would greatly appreciate it.

I will re re re type my position on immigration reform so people don't forget my position on it and just start calling me a racist. I am for immigration reform. I believe there is/are a need/needs for more ways for people to come here legally to work and or become citizens. I welcome all who want to come here legally and if many who want to but can not because we don't allow enough then we should look into changing that.

I think my position is reasonable. I try to have the utmost respect for the law while trying to understand and sympathize with those wanting to come here. Reform is needed but if the federal government doesn't enforce the reformed laws like they haven't enforced the current laws it will do little good. I have my doubts as to whether reform will even happen and if it does I don't think they will enforce it. Like most things they will use an issue that the people are passionate about and talk it up big so they will get some votes and then do very little about it.

Now I see that several senators are saying that the 14th amendment needs to be reviewed. That's the one that allows children born of immigrants to automatically become U.S. citizens. I can see where that will open a lot of discussion. I myself am only second generation American. My immigrant grandfather arrived as a bonded worker in the sugar plantations in Hawaii in 1882. My father was born in Honolulu in 1900 when the state was then a Territory.
