Golf course manager dies

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Word spread quickly this morning that long-time Emporia Municipal Golf Course Manager Rich Jaggard had died unexpectedly around mid-morning.

Tracy Booth, executive secretary to City Manager Matt Zimmerman confirmed that announcement of Jaggard's death was made to city employees.

Jaggard was at the golf course when he is believed to have suffered a heart attack. He was taken to Newman Regional Health.

Booth said no other information was available.

"I know everybody's pretty much in shock," said Booth, who asked that people keep the Jaggard family in their prayers.

I knew Rich as a young man when I grew up in Emporia. He always influenced me in a good way and I really admired him. Although I haven't seen him in several years, I am really sad about his passing.
