Hunters not wanted

Saturday, January 16, 2010

To those hunters who have filled their freezers, I congratulate you on another successful hunt: I hope you did so legally.

If you were a poacher, then I hope you got caught, lost all your hunting privileges and were severly fined.

If you were one of those who chose to trespass in order to chase, kill, cut off the trophy head and leave the rest to rot, then for you, my constant wish is:

May the powder of your ammo be damp;

May a branch deflect your bullet/arrow;

May your firearm continually jam;

May your bow break;

May your arm develop weaknesses;

May your eyesight go bad;

May your tree stand always be unstable;

May you be plagued with mechanical problems in each vehicle that you ride;

May the weather always be intolerably bad when you hunt;

May you be ostracized by other hunters, for you are far worse than any sportsman hunting.

You have contaminated all other hunters by your amorality. You have lowered yourself to hunt for the glory of the kill and wasted the food of the hunt.

Your amoral selfishness continues to reinforce landowners justifiable reasons to refuse hunter requests.

Stay off my land.

Bravo!!!! After fighting "illegal" hunters for years, we only allow 2 seperate parties on our land. We are not hunters, but we are "country" folk who enjoys fishing, enjoy watching the wildlife that roam our land. We have chased off numerous people. What some of these people don't seem to understand is if you would AT LEAST knock on someones door for permission to hunt, your chances are greater to be told yes. But when you are told no, don't come trespassing like ones in the past have done. This is OUR land. Not yours......

Mother nature has a way of "getting even" sooner or later the individual(s) in question will get caught. In today's world of game cams and everyone with a camera phone it is just a matter of time. The people that did this might have a trophy but they have no honor and every time they look at the rack they will be reminded of how they procured it.

All those cameras will do no good once cloaking devices are put on the market to help hunters trick and kill dumb animals. The cameras will not be able to detect the cloaked hunters. I heard that Obama is pushing to release cloaking technology and other Klingon technology from Area 51 to try to boost the economy. We'll see if the obstructionist try to stop him. I can hear it now, "We don't want no dangedable Klingon technology round these parts!" "We just got used to the Vulcans and now Obama wants to push this Klingon mumbo jumbo on us! I don't think so, mister!!" "I heard the cloaking devices cause receding hair lines and bumpy foreheads! More research is needed!" Here we go again about Klingon technology. Politics and Klingon technology are the two most divisive subjects. I wish you never would have brought it up.

This situation is despicable and I am glad Pat is speaking out. These so called hunters that steal from other real hunters who do it right hopefully will be caught, the waste of good meat is inexcusable. However, I am afraid the shame that should be felt will not happen, these people lack a conscience.

73again,

A lot of the problem finding hunting and fishing spots on private land is due directly to land owners having things of this nature transpire. It only takes one incident and a land owner will cut everyone off because it is near impossible to know who to trust. My suggestion, anytime you see or even hear off anyone hunting of fishing illegally report them, they do not have to be caught in the act to be prosecuted.

They are probably growing weed on their property and don't want you finding it. I hope the pot farmers don't get a hold of cloaking technology. Even though it will be a big boost to the economy, I can see some down sides to Klingon technology. Since it was developed primarily for war it will surely appeal to the criminal element. It really is a complex issue. On a brighter note, imagine exploding a 12 point buck with a photon torpedo! That would be neat.

The other problem we have is the few local people that do guided hunts that has leased ground for hunting. And they get the big dollars for the hunt but seems to forget to pay the lease. This always causes problems for future hunters. THANKS DAVE!!!!!!!!

I'm afraid this is not only with hunting illegally but also cutting of trees. We planted a number of pines and each year, for a number of years, at the far end of our drive, each spring we would be missing some, base cut by a chain saw!! (figure just right for a Christmas tree) Also, I have a number of trees between my neighbor and I and EACH year, hear a chain saw. This gal goes out and low and behold some man will be cutting firewood!!! (they needed some and usually from town) I have them unload their trailer/truck and LEAVE!!!! Gee! then I use it the next year! People are amazing!!!!(They NEVER have permission!!!) My neighbor and I have a "pact" NO tree cutters!!!

Conifer poachers are the worst. Imagine what damage they could do with a cloaking device. I still say we support the president in releasing this technology to give the economy a much needed boost. If you have a shred of decency left in your mortal soul you will support him in this, if nothing else.

Live long and prosper. I guarantee you will prosper more with a little Klingon technology. Am I right? Yeah, I thought so.

Good for you, sandman to make them unload the firewood. You go, feisty girl.

I've been told that a lot of those cutting firewood don't have fireplaces. They're selling it.

Landowners must continue to be vigilant. Remember on Bonanza when people were always cutting out a few steers because the Cartrights had so many. Only a TV program, yes, but certainly reflecting the thieves that exist in society then and now.

The only thing worse than poachers are thievies...wait a minute, its the same thing. Maybe poachers should ask for a single retired judge trial and hope for the best. It seems to work. Maybe the poachers could blame the landowners for not having a cloaking device provided to them with stimilus dollars from some sort of government handout program, and get off!!

seriouslyfolks (anonymous) says...

That's a good point. If the government gave out subsidies to people to buy cloaking devices the people could use the cloaking devices to "redistribute wealth" them selves.

It is illegal to hunt on another's land without permission, to use illegal methods, or hunt out of season, steal someones firewood, or take game on their land without permission.

Breaking the law is breaking the law. Period.

Doing any of the above is breaking the law, just as robbing a bank, knocking over a liquor store, stealing a car, robbing someone's house when they are gone, or being in this country illegally.

Obey the law or suffer the consequences. It's that simple.

In typical Gazette fashion, the title of this article should have been Poachers or Game Slobs Not Wanted, not Hunters not wanted.

There is a big difference between hunters and those that violate game laws to kill wildlife. Those of you that drive around road hunting for your deer, shooting at them from the road are no different than the midnight poacher or trespasser in my book.

Ms Nelson, zero tolerance, prosecute every chance you get, word gets around that you do, it slows down problems, but we all know there will always be lazy unethical slobs around to continue the tradition.

Yes, what people do! We country folks could tell a "number" of stories of unwanted animails dropped off, teenagers out "sparking" and getting their car stuck, etc. What truly comes to mind is one evening, a neighbor heard gun shots, shooting my direction.(coming from a car). It was around 11:00 in the evening, he quickly got his clothes on and chased them in his truck, catching them. Boy! guess he gave them what for! Now, the story gets more interesting. The "shooters" father is a neighbor, on over, and he and his wife were visiting, a couple weeks later. He was telling me how my neighbor chased his son down and scared the kids to death!! How unfair this was!!!! Needless to say, I added a few "words" to the father!!! Folks, use some "common sense", NEVER shoot from a car, ALSO instruct your children! If they are going to be using a weapon, do so in the proper manner!!!! I now have a "clean shot" 22 hole in a window that I need to repair!!! (I didn't even KNOW the shooter!!!!)

I thought that the comments flowed pretty smoothly into the subject of secret Klingon technology that the government has been sitting on for all these years and could possibly release in order to stimulate the economy. I guess I was wrong. But anyway now that we are all interested in talking about Klingon technology, remember those double bladed spear thingies that the Klingons had? I bet you could really slice and dice the corpse of a dumb dead deer with one of those bad boys. Boy howdy indeed.

In Hawaii, we have only one word and it is posted almost everywhere on private property. KAPU. Tourists always ask who this Mr. Kapu is, commenting that he seems to own so much property.

KAPU is an extremely strong word much more important than a simple No Trespassing or Keep Out. Here's a short explanation:

" The Hawaiian word kapu is usually translated to English as "forbidden," though it also carries the means of "sacred", "consecrated", or "holy". In ancient Hawaii, kapu refers to the ancient system of laws and regulations. An offense that was kapu was often a corporal offense, but also often denoted a threat to spiritual power, or theft of mana. Kapus were strictly enforced. Breaking one, even unintentionally, often meant immediate death.[1] The concept is related to taboo and the tapu or tabu found in other Polynesian cultures."

The belief system in Hawaii allows that word to be very powerful, even sacred because it relates to the loss of someone's spiritual power. My father used to tie KAPU signs to our breadfruit and mango trees to prevent people from climbing the trees to steal the fruit.

Perhaps No Hunting signs should be accompanied by a promise of a curse or something similar to what is contained in the article.

Akamai, more lessons from Polynesia for you. Aloha nui loa.

I wish I had a double bladed sword thing to slice and dice those dumb deer!! Perhaps one of those fancey arm bands from predator !! I could wear a back pack that had laser's and stuff in it!! I love technology, the state says I can't use night vision to hunt but it doesn't say I can't use infered to see them threw the woods and then BAM them with a laser!! Who needs cloaking when a 105mm cannon can reach them from miles away. It also makes them into, nice easy to eat strips of jerky !!! Who doesn't like a little gun powder taste on their meat??

An example of hunter etiquette would be locating a suitable field, checking to see if land owner will give you permission to hunt, request a written permission stating landowners name and your name, thanking the landowner with small gifts or go out during the summer and spend an afternoon visiting and helping the landowner do something. Always use good ethical behavior when hunting. Just because someone has a rifle/bow/black powder and a permit, does not give them exclusive rights to hunt everywhere their nose is pointing. The same for other types of "entitled" thievery Those advocating that tresspassers will be shot are being silly. Its against the law! Not that the any landowner would go to that extreme, but lawbreakers have. A landowner stabberd n rural central Ks last year by aan irate hunter. Beau Arndt shot by a roadside hunter. Stupid shameless behavior by people who felt entitled to do so, because they could and maybe never have to face the consequences!

If I saw a guy I did not know walking around my place with a weapon, or if someone discharged a weapon in my direction that could be the end of them. Kansas has some pretty liberal self defense guidelines, if you have armed trespassers on your property you don't have to retreat back, especially if you feel threatened. Given the moral compass of the people that trespass and hunt, many times knowing not what lies beyond their target I would not hesitate one bit if I felt threatened. One has no clue what state of mind or who these people are, in today's times you never know what kind of weirdo your dealing with.
