Lyon County Commission held a study session this morning to discuss several items.
8:45 a.m.
Commissioners put several of Road and Bridge’s items on consent including the 2010 sealing project; the purchase of a used 2007 asphalt paver; and the low bid for Mel’s Tire for loader tires for $6,831.
9:15 a.m.
Ruth Wheeler, District Court, asked commissioners for approval for a capital outlay purchase of up to $9,000 to continue converting old court data such as ledgers and dockets to a window-based program for easier retrieval. The information is still useful to the court and needs to be retrievable, said Dan Slater, Lyon County controller. The item was placed on Thursday’s consent agenda.
9:50 a.m.
Mark McKenna, facilities management, discussed the purchase of a computer at the Lyon County Health Department for the boiler system. The computer will allow the system to be monitored remotely. The item was placed on Thursday's consent agenda.
10:10 a.m.
Doug Stueve, Lyon County Department on Aging, presented this year’s grant to the Kansas Department of Transportation for funds to commissioners. The grant is sent to KDOT each year.
10:40 a.m.
Rick Frevert, Lyon County emergency management, discussed the acceptance of Reverse 911 equipment. Lyon County’s cost is $5 for six years.
“The product allows dispatch centers to basically contact people quickly,” Frevert said. “How it works is we as emergency services can set up our own user groups and it can be used to notify the public, key people within government organization and operations."

Frevert's comment is just kinda weird, hope the county commission asks more questions, the police dept already have reverse look up for 911 calls, they can call you back if the stupid kids dial 911, frevert, I dont want you to contact me since I am public.

Let me try to clarify. It's a component of Reverse 911 that allows them to communicate the public quickly such as sending out announcements.
