Sarah Palin has been criss-crossing the United States hawking her new book “Going Rogue.”
As she has been generating headlines for her book sales, there has also been speculation about her intent to run for president in 2012.
This has made me wonder whether she is more interested in being a politician or being a celebrity.
During the 2008 presidential election, she did have a few bright moments as John McCain’s running mate. One was when she gave an inspiring vice presidential running mate acceptance speech and captivated a nation with her comparison of hockey moms and pit bulls.
But then she fell apart when she sat down with reporters for one-on-one interviews, and it was clear that the governor from Alaska was not prepared for the national stage.
If Palin has interest in running for higher office, the big question is, why did she quit her job as Alaska governor and leave the state floundering? After all, what better way to prove to voters that she is capable of running the United States than after successfully running a state?
Of course in our media-hungry society, it is safer to do nothing than to actually do something and be held accountable.
Who knows what Palin will become, but Palin’s PR machine will do what it can to keep her name out there for doing nothing, which could make for a very long 2010.
