Amid a string of coincidences, Hunter Rand Wellnitz came into the world to become the first baby born at Newman Regional Health in 2010.
Hunter is not just Emporia’s New Year’s baby for 2010. He is the second New Year’s baby in his family — Hunter was born 50 years to the day after his grandfather, Kevin, was born.
Hunter came into the world at 10:54 a.m. Friday, the son of Jaque and Randy Wellnitz of Olpe. Jaque Wellnitz said he made the delivery a lot easier than her firstborn, Hunter’s older brother, Hagen.
“It was so much better than the first one,” she said on Saturday morning. “I pushed nine minutes with him, two-and-a-half hours with the first one.”
Wellnitz went to the hospital at 5:30 New Year’s morning, not expecting to deliver so soon.
