Friday, February 19, 2010
Daniel E. Tye of Emporia will receive his Eagle Scout award at 2 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Emporia Friends Church. He is a member of the Jayhawk Area Council Boy Scout Troop 165, which meets weekly at Grace United Methodist Church.
Tye has earned 25 merit badges, served as assistant patrol leader, librarian, patrol leader and has completed an Eagle Scout project. His project was to benefit Camp Alexander. He organized Scouts, materials, financing from the Kiwanis and construction of a covered shelter at the target range at the camp. This project will protect campers from the elements since the range is quite far away from any other shelter.
Tye graduates this May from Emporia High School and plans to attend Kansas State University in the fall, where he will study chemistry.
He is the son of Steven and Lisa Tye. Grandparents are Leanna Base of Hutchinson and Diana Kovacs of Sun City, Ariz.
