Q How come local police officers who carry a gun or drive police cars are not on a random drug-screen schedule, like all transport drivers are required to be?
A “There are no state or federal laws that we are aware of that require random drug testing other than those with commercial drivers’ licenses,” said Emporia Police Chief Gary Smith. “Police officers in Emporia are not required to hold a CDL. Law enforcement officers are not considered transport drivers.”

I would imagine the police dept. is like most businesses and drug test under certain specific conditions, like when there's an accident. You have to be drug screened to get almost any job anymore. I know of one funny incident where someone at a local business "had an accident" on the way to his drug screen. They rescheduled it and the lab called the employer to say the urine wasn't the right temperature. They ran it anyway and it still tested positive! You would think if you're going to use someone else's pee you'd be sure they were at least clean!

Are police officers not on a random drug screen like the rest of the city employee's? Are any of the court house employee's subject to a randon drug check? It seems to me that the people that need to be tested, law makers, law enforcement, and the unemployed are NOT, but the average working people are. It doesn't make sense to me.

They should test every single person working for the city starting with Zimmerman and on down to the bottom,. and the County should do the same, if you get a check working for the city or county all should be tested, ohhhhhhhh wait, they would have to hire a whole lot of people then,
never mind.

If you want to test for drugs for civil servents, fine I say go for it. BUT, lets also test those that receive welfare, or any other "free money".
Then let's take it a step further, lets close the doors on Liquor stores, the most adictive damn drug of them all.
Yeow that's what I thought, "no not that"!
Suddenly it make all you poster's hypocrits.

Nicotine is another very addictive drug......but the people who are most opposed to its use are the same ones that are adamantly opposed to outlawing it because that would dry up their cash cow. Talk about hypocrites.

i had to look up "spliff" , it took a while after the 2nd martini.

Some people say quit spending money you don't have and then those same people say initiate a new program that will cost a fortune to implement. Some people are funny like that I guess.

I am not 100% on this but I would assume All city employees are subject to random testing. Including zimmerman and police officers. I would think it would be a part of the cities health care package. Maybe that should have been the question asked.
