Excess funds go to owner

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Q How much money did the Department of Revenue collect in past-due sales and withholding taxes from all the sales and the auction at Madelynn’s? If there was excess, can the state keep it, or will it go to the store’s former owner?

A “We can’t tell what the results of the auction were,” said Freda Warfield, public information officer for KDOR. “Any overage of what was due will be returned to the taxpayer, Jean Woods.”

I'm guessing Madelynn's owner owed others too not just the government. All that stock that was sold for pennies on the dollar had to cost a lot of bucks.
