‘Annie’ premiere

Monday, February 15, 2010

An unusually large number of Emporia High School students will be in the cast and crew when the musical “Annie” opens this week in the EHS auditorium.

In addition to teacher Amanda Stice and her theater students, the production will include Melinda Flohr as conductor, Sheree Stoppel as vocal director, Dana Witten as pianist and Bob Haselhuhn, who is working with the band and orchestra students.

“All of the students and staff have worked really hard and long to get this production off its feet,” Stice said. “The kids have been rehearsing for about seven weeks off and on.”

The show will be at noon on Wednesday for elementary students and, for the general public, at 7 p.m. Thursday and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $6 per person for adults and children.

“Annie,” based on the comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” by Harold Gray, ran for about six years on Broadway. The music is by Charles Strouse, with lyrics by Martin Charnin and the book by Thomas Meehan.
