Ribbon cutting

The Emporia Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau will be host for a ribbon cutting at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Newman Pediatrics — Dr. Derek Brown, Pediatrician. Newman Pediatrics is in the Newman Medical Plaza, 1301 W. 12th Ave.

Employees honored

Newman Regional Health CEO Bob Driewer announced in a press release that seven employees shared in the award for the 2009 Employees of the Year at a reception last week at Newman Regional Health. Together, these seven employees have worked 117 years for Newman Regional Health, stated the news release.

Those recognized were Judy Goza, perioperative aide, surgery; Sharon Hutchcroft, transport aide, transport; Wilma Malone, dietitian, nutrition services; Karen Schell, director of cardiopulmonary services; Nina Topper, unit secretary, same day surgery; Gail Weakley, billing specialist, Newman Orthopedics and Sports Medicine; Sharon Williams, cardiopulmonary services supervisor.

These individuals were selected from a field of nominations for their outstanding service and dedication to the hospital, stated the press release. During the award presentation, the employees were recognized for their commitment and loyalty to Newman Regional Health and support for their department, co-workers and patients.

Model search

Local photographer Staci Sull of Olpe and of A Lasting Image Photography is participating in the 2010 International Charity Model Search to select “North America’s Cutest Family” and to raise funds for the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation, stated the news release. Participating photographers submit portraits of local families for online voting. Finalists will be determined by online votes. Each vote is $1 and all proceeds from votes benefit the organization.

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization committed to assisting parents and families going through the difficult time when they experience an infant loss, stated the news release. NILMDTS connects families with volunteer photographers and provides them with a CD of the images of their baby at no cost to the family. According to the news release, the grand prize international winner will be determined from the 52 city finalists. Many prizes will be awarded and the grand prize winner receives a new car. The winners will be selected from the finalist gallery by photography and modeling industry experts. People who want to enter the contest may call Sull at Lasting Image Photography at (620) 475-3953. Sull has been a professional photographer practicing in the Emporia area since 2004.
