There’s little grandparents won’t do to help their grandchildren, and scam artists in Coffey County have used that situation to their own benefit.
In a news release from the Kansas Attorney General’s office, spokeswoman Ashley Anstaett said Coffey County Sheriff Randy Rogers reported that two residents of his jurisdiction already have been victimized by the scammers.
“The scam starts with a phone call from a male caller, either claiming to be a grandson in jail or a bonding company calling on behalf of a grandchild,” Anstaett stated in a news release. “The caller claims that the relative needs $2,500 to bond out of jail.”

I really hate this type of scam..Me being a Bail Agent,it does reflect on me..Sometimes, more often than not,,we are an inmates only contact to family members and friends, however,I do agree not to rush into anything,,,and I always give the family member a number to the perspective jail so they can call and confirm the incarceration of the subject.I do make the courtesy calls for the inmate, and i have never tried to pursuade anybody ,I just give them the information that we were provided and then they decide if they want to help..

you'd think law officials would contact western union to be on the lookout for elderly people making large money wire purchases and ask them if it's for bail bond.
