The Emporia Granada Theatre will be full of tapping Thursday evening at the performance of Tap Kids, a group of dancers who travel the country sharing their talent.
The Tap Kids act was created by choreographer Lisa Hopkins and composer Philip Stern, and the original New York stage production “Tap Kids” debuted at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in 2002. The cast of eight dancers has had success around the country in more than 35 states. They also have traveled internationally and have appeared on the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon as well as dancing at Paul Newman’s “The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp” for terminally ill children.
“Tap Kids tells the story of a group of high-school kids as they journey through their senior year,” a press release stated. “Complete with dancing on lunch trays in the cafeteria, drama at the school dance, mischief in detention and finally graduation as they are launched into their futures with all their hopes and dreams ahead of them.”
Tap Kids is sponsored by the Mid-America Arts Alliance, National Endowment for the Arts and the Kansas Arts Commission.
Tap Kids will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Emporia Granada Theatre. Tickets for Tap Kids cost $24 for adults and $15 for youth. Emporia State University students are free (limited availability).
