Emporia High’s swimming team finished in 14th place out of 21 teams in Saturday’s Manhattan Invitational.
Two divers and one swimmer won medals for the Spartans for their performances. Derek Krause added another diving championship to his resume, winning the diving competition with a score of 371.20. Zach Windsor also earned a medal for his work off the diving board, placing eighth with a score of 250.05. Ryan Schlup was the only EHS swimmer to earn a top 10 finish, earning a medal with his eighth-place showing in the 100 butterfly. Schlup clocked a time of 1 minute, 1.82 seconds.
Emporia’s next-best swimming finish came from Larkin Bennett, who finished 11th in the 100 breaststroke. A pair of Spartan relay teams finished 14th; the 200 medley team of Cody Muckenthaler, Bennett, Schlup and Krause finished in 1:59.72, and the 200 free team of Schlup, Jared Schaefer, Jeff Powell and Krause finished in 1:45.51.
The Spartans host the Centennial League meet Thursday and Friday.
