Optimists

During the Flint Hills Optimist Club meeting Jan. 28, it was announced the annual FHOC and Cable One Easter Egg Hunt will be held April 3 in Jones Park. Members were thanked for their work with the Bloodmobile and a donation to Camp Quality, a camp for children with cancer. It was decided the club would establish a scholarship at Emporia State University in memory of fellow member and former president Rich Jaggard, along with other memorial tributes. Guests at the meeting were Dave Fuller and Steve Miller.

Sertoma

The Sertoma Club of Emporia celebrated its 85th anniversary in January. The Emporia club was chartered in 1925 and is one of the oldest in the nation.

The club’s Service to Mankind award will be presented to Amy Jordan at the award dinner at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Guesthouse Inn. Jordan is the Lyon County Extension horticulturist. Her expertise touches people of all ages as she works with youth in schools and the 4-H program as well as adults through various educational and media forums, stated the Sertoma news bulletin. Jordan is married to Brian Jordan and they have two daughters, Ava, 5, and Mae, 3.

The Kansas District governor, Michelle Skinner, will present the award.

The Sertoman of the Year, Ulli Wallace, will be recognized at the dinner on March 25.
