ESU men lose to UNO

Saturday, February 6, 2010

Nebraska-Omaha used a late 7-0 run to pull away from Emporia State in a close game and win 94-88 on Saturday night.

In game that went back and fourth throughout, the Hornets closed to with one at 81-80 when UNO’s Tyler Bullock took over the game.

Bullock scored two straight drives to the basket and then hit Andrew Bridger for a dagger 3-pointer that put UNO ahead by eight with just over two minutes left.

The Hornets nearly got back in the game when Tim Niles and Jordan Stout scored on back-to-back layups, and Niles got a steal with about 35 seconds left that would have given the Hornets a chance to get within one possession. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the Mavs stole the ball right back and Jeff Martin made two free throws.

Lamar Wilbern scored a season-high 31 points to lead the Hornets, and Adam Holthaus added 16.

Emporia State dropped to 9-13 overall and 5-10 in the MIAA. For complete coverage of Saturday’s game, check Monday’s Gazette.
