Three people are in custody today following an early morning armed robbery.
The Emporia Burger King, 2725 W. 18th Avenue, was allegedly robbed with a firearm early this morning, according to police.
Police Chief Gary Smith said this afternoon that the money from the robbery was recovered today and three people are in custody. He said more information will be released Monday. Names are not being released at this hour.
No injuries have been reported in this incident.
The police log shows a call came at 4:10 a.m. Sunday about a robbery involving a firearm. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office came to the scene to assist at 4:49 a.m.
Burger King is open for business today.

Who ever was in charge could have prevented that because they could have closed the window really quick and locked it then moved.

Re-read the article. They Lyon County SHERIFF's dept showed up to ASSIST at 4:49. Because Burger King is within the city limits, the Emporia Police Dept would have responded first.

Where in the article does it say the robbery took place at the drive up window?
Of course, I haven't been inside the place. They may have windows inside.

hate to break it to you, but being a fast food manager at one time, the first thing they tell you is "don't play hero" you think that someone could do that, well...it is impossible to try and "close the window" or "duck down" until you have a gun at your head, you might wanna just shut up. you don't realize what it is like.

never fear Emporia.
Perry Mason is on the case. He along with trusty private dick Paul Drake will find the real criminal. Then with sexy secretary Stella, Perry will face off in court against the evil prosecutor Mr. Burger. Poor Mr. Burger. He never won a case.
OH, SORRY.
That was a t.v. show.

I worked fast food in high school and the first couple years of college as a shift manager. Yeah, you don't try to stop it, you try to minimize damage and make sure no one gets hurt while memorizing all you can about the person whose robbing you.
And that's really everywhere that can get robbed. You've got a nervous moron with gun whose obviously desperate, do you really want to push your luck?
Also, I'm supposed to announce to the forums that my boyfriend wants to call them the BK Bandits.

I agree with create. Where does it say the robbery took place a the drive up window? Someone inside the building and it isn't as easy to duck or run (no windows to close on the inside).
@ pnkgurl106 - i also agree with you. it's easy to say what you would do unless you are absolutely faced with the situation. Hopefully no one was hurt.

I am betting the people posting have never had a gun pointed at them or been shot at. All plans are good till you are looking down the barrel of a gun, and frankly my life is worth more than the $100 in the register. I am doubting BK sprang for any bullet proof windows in that place.

BK was the only place open that night.. I pull in to parking lot from 18th ave to BK and this red car with white strip was leaving the parking lot driving in middle making it hard for me to turn into parking lot.. this is when we first meet. (young teenager)
anyhow, I get in the parking lot he leaves, I was in drive thru line about 4 mins later he comes back and waits in line right behind me so I am like something is not right... so he waits in drive tru line for about 5mins then all of sudden he backs up so fast and parks it in front of main entrance. I was still at the drive tru window waiting for my turn to order.. well after he parks it it took good 10 mins for me to order and get my food because they were bussy well... I get my food i pull out of lot and there he is still waiting for me I stop at street light at 18th and industrial to take I35 and he follows me i look at him he turns the other way around and speeds off to 18th and prairie direction.
I am not sure if that guy was involved because this sure does add up to what i witnessed that night. It was about 11PM
Red old car with big white strip going front bumper to back bumper.

Desperate fools! I'm glad they've been caught. Armed robery is a big time felony.
Don't know about Perry Mason, but Charlie Chan says, "You boys go jail now, big time!!!"
Good job, EPD!!!

Doesnt take a rocket scientist nor a super sleuth to figure out likely suspects that would be robbing a Burger King in Emporia Kansas at 4am.
You would have to be either really desperate or pathetically stupid to risk going to prison for french fry money.

mrscobra, if you worked there like you say you did you should know there is NO way to duck down below the window and hello BK does NOT half bullet proof windows and what the hell is locking the window going to do if they have a gun? sounds like you dont like BK too much...and why try to play hero and get someone injured or killed just to save some money?? Pnkgurl06 is right. They do tell the managers to do what the robber wants as long as no empoyees are hurt.

mrscobra1588 (anonymous) says...
blah98, YES there is a way to duck below the window. You don't know how the inside is set up by the window anyway so you don't know what I am talking about and if you read the article the window don't count no more because it wasn't the window anyway.

Both the employe and the manager got hurt that nite so it wouldn't have mattered if they done what the robber told them to do or not. I know the manager that was in charger and she is really shakin up and hurts.

I work at Burger King.
To those who say to simply 'duck below the drive thru window'... it is easy to think about how you may react if you're placed in the situation. It can become another matter if something actually happens. Also the robbery didn't happen at the window.
The manager that was in charge is a really sweet person, and she handled things the way she did for a reason.
What I don't understand is why I was told later that people were still pounding on the window/door expecting to be fed immediately following the whole thing.
