The Lyon County commissioners met for their action session this morning.
8:30 a.m.
• Commissioners signed a contract for Federal-Aid Road Construction Engineering for a Kansas Department of Transportation project, the bridge replacement project on Road 310 west of Road H.
• Commissioners approved sending out a request for bids for wood sign posts. Woods said more are needed because of sign vandalism depleting supplies of extra sign posts.
9 a.m.
Commissioners unanimously approved the rezoning of a piece of property from general business zoning to agriculture. The property housed a former antique business off of Road 175. The Lyon County Planning and Appeals board voted unanimously as well to approve the application. Sam Seeley, Lyon County zoning administrator and flood plain manager, said the property is surrounded by other properties that are either zoned agriculture with a house on it or just zoned agriculture.
9:30 a.m.
Commissioners have gone to break. Items up for discussion next include a resolution establishing policy for indigent funerals and a resolution establishing a coroner cremation fee.
9:45 a.m.
Commissioners have entered into executive session.
10:30 a.m.
Commissioners passed Resolution 32-10, a resolution establishing a coroner cremation fee of $50 and a certified autopsy report also will be $50. A similar item regarding a resolution establishing indigent funeral services for decedents was tabled until next week.

Coroner's creamation fee of 50 bucks, can someone tell me just what the hell this is.
I can understand somewhat the autopsy report fee.
But the 50 dollar fee for the coroner, just more bs creative ways to seperate folks from there money. And, they can do it by just a wave of the magic money wand.
Hey why can't I charge 50 bucks for every one that stops in my drive way on 99 and talk on the cell phone for 20 minutes at a time. Guess I'll do that. Hell I'll be rollin in the dough by summer. So all you folks that read this that are stopping in my drive way on South 99 and tearing up the asphalt, I'll be coming out to collect from now on. Thank You!

My apologies for not explaining this further. I had to get more information myself before answering your question. The resolution establishes a coroner cremation fee of $50 for those who choose to be cremated. There is a $50 state permit fee that the county is charged for a cremation permit. That cost will be passed on to the estate of the deceased.
Does that make more sense to you?
Hope that helps,
Brandy

Good grief, a state cremation fee....the state can't even let someone die without taking one more jab at their wallet. This government poking their noses in everybody's business has gone way too far.

this is nothing compared to the county that i lived in before. Be freaking glad that you aren't living in Johnson County. You think things are "high" here. Move to the richest county in the state of Kansas. Quit complaining and be happy you can afford the crap in this county.

Nope Brandy, no part of this makes sense.
Are you talking about indigent folks with no means for burial?
If not, and you are talking of the county just charging 50 bucks because someone wants to be cremated then that is ridiculous , taxation without representation!! If the State is charging for folks who wish to be cremated over regular burial then this country is more screwed up then it can possibly recover from.
Creative taxation, God will it ever end. I am beginning to think the only way out of this mess is a total depression as in the 30's.
This 50 dollar crap reall ticks me off.
