Plan a designated driver

IF YOU ARE still looking for the perfect present this holiday season for an adult friend or family member, consider gifting yourself as a designated driver.
What better way to tell others you care about them than helping them get home safely from a holiday celebration or night on the town. If you do, you won’t be alone. More than 137 million American adults have been a designated driver or been driven home by one, according to a projection based upon a 2010 survey conducted by Gfk Custom Research North America. Now that’s a reason to celebrate.
If you are planning on hosting a holiday party for adults, remember these tips to help have a safe celebration:
• When serving alcohol beverages, offer a variety of good food;
• Offer non-alcohol beverages for the designated drivers;
• Serve guests one drink at a time; and
• Stop serving alcohol one hour before the party ends.
Mussatto Bros., Inc., and Anheuser-Busch encourage adults who choose to drink to do so responsibly and to use a designated driver or alternate transportation if they may have had too much to drink.
Thanks to designated drivers and increased law enforcement, our nation is making progress in the fight against drunk driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drunk-driving fatalities have declined 49 percent since 1982.

Also, if you party falls on a Sunday, be sure to buy your booze in advance and in ample amounts! Emporia thinks that buying a legal product on Sunday is a sin or some such nonsense. The last thing you want is to have to drive to the next town because you ran out of booze in the middle of the party!

P.S. I'm the DD for our crew this weekend! Give me a medal or cookie please!

I am sick of all the hype against drinking and driving. I am my own designated driver. I can drive with a BAC of 0.12 without problem. Drunk and impaired driving should not be crimes. There is no reason to move against drunk or impaired drivers just for doing so. If they can get to their destination without causing a crash or hitting somebody, all the more power to them. It seems that drunk driving is the only offense where one is punished for what one might do, now for what one actually does. Besides, I read where 1/3 of traffic fatalities involve illegal drugs. Where is the outrage against that? MADD should be called WADD---Wenches against Drugged Driving. Then they would be of value.

Biscuit, smoking is harm is self inflicted. Alcohol can be self-inflicting too, but the article and my post deal with harm to others. I can drive fine after 6 or 8 drinks, so why should I be arrested? Don't care about smokers and drunks. Let them smoke and drink themselves silly. But if you can drink and drive without a problem, great!

But I can smoke around another (if I smoked) without causing harm to that particular person also.....in that particular incident. What I am saying is the damage done by second hand smoke is cumulative......so on an incident by incident basis you are being punished for causing a harm to others that you may not have caused with the incident you are being punished for.
But actually all this was argued ad nauseum back during the smoking ban debate and I lost. I have no intention or desire to get back into it now. It is very much a moot point. I only posted what I did because I knew I would soon get the response I got.
But you sure sounded a lot like an old adversary of mine during that period with your response. An adversary I had actually thought at one time had morphed into "enry. Or did my old adversary morph into empgazfan....or maybe into 'enry and then empgazfan. Who knows? Who cares?.....It's just fun to speculate.

If you have those 6 or 8 drinks over a period of six or eight hours, you probably wouldn't be arrested...But, if you have those 6 or 8 drinks in one or two hours and you do that so often that you have grown tolerant to it's effects, you probably have a drinking problem.

empgazfan.....I was just having fun speculating about your possible past incarnations. I have learned (especially in the past few months) not to get too serious about who and what anonymous posters really are. I have come to look at them as actors on a stage. Free to recreate and reinvent their personas at will as the role they are trying to play at the moment demands.
You can believe you have come to know them......even to have developed a bond with them......only to find their persona has changed and you really didn't know them at all. So as long as a poster is anonymous I have learned no to be too concerned with the persona they present because it probably has little connection to reality. It's all just a game.

empgazfan, what you seem to fail to realize is that it only takes one time for a drunk to hit someone and kill them. It has been proven over and over that usually in this type of accident, the drunk survives but the people hit, don't. Sooooooooooo, if you want to drink and "fix" your liver, please do so, just don't drive and kill me!!!!!!!
