Janice Romeiser, a reading and instructional coach at Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative, was named Emporia Master Teacher during a short ceremony on Friday.
Romeiser has taught at every grade level in her 43 years of teaching experience.
She didn’t know before that she would receive the award and said she was surprised.
“I don’t know what to say,” she said to the crowd right after she received the award. “Thank you.”
A committee of former Emporia Master Teachers go through nominations to select a winner each year. To receive the award, a teacher must have 15 years of experience and be nominated by their peers.
Since Romeiser won the Emporia Master Teacher award will is now one of seven educators who will be considered for the Kansas Master Teacher award.
That award will be named in March at Emporia State University.
