Austin Bass and Glenn Haag scored 16 points each in a losing effort for the Olpe Eagles as they fell 59-51 to Bishop Seabury. The Eagles had a four-point halftime lead but fell in the second half.
“Their athleticism gave us fits at times,” said Olpe coach Chris Schmidt. “They made plays down the stretch to win the ball game.”
The Eagles took a 30-26 lead into the half before being outscored by 12 in the second. Brothers Josh and Johnny McDermott added 13 and 11 points for Bishop Seabury.
The Eagles will next play Burlingame at home on Wednesday.

Chase County 45, Peabody 24
The Chase County Bulldogs opened up their season with a 21-point victory over Peabody. Aaron Johnson led all scorers in the game with 15 points. The Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-11 halftime lead before extending it to 18 in the third.
“We played hard the entire time,” said Chase County assistant coach Lewis Whitson. “We hustled after a lot of loose balls (and) made some defensive plays... We were patient with our offense for most the time (and) made some good decisions with the basketball .”
Garrett Osgood scored nine points for Chase County and Daulton Crawford added six as Chase County held Peabody to just eight points in the second and third quarters.
The Bulldogs will play at Wichita Home School Tuesday.

After being down at half, Council Grove scored 28 second-half points to defeat Osage City Friday night. Tyler Sisson and Brock Frye led the way for the Braves with 12 points a piece on the night, helping the team after a sluggish first half.
“It was a pretty sloppy first half,” said Council Grove coach Bruce Hula. “Osage City really played great defense and confused us in their sets. We did a better job (in the second half) of running things the way we run them. It wasn’t the prettiest basketball, (but) Osage City is always going to play hard.”
Derek Ziegenhirt also scored in double figures for the Braves as he had 10 points. Harley Grimmet had six on the night.
Council Grove will play play at Abilene on Wednesday.

Mike Wilson of Hartford had 23 points and Trevor White of Lebo had 25 as the Wolves defeated Hartford 62-45. Lebo controlled the game from the start as it jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first quarter. That was doubled in the third quarter as Lebo took a 49-31 lead over the Jaguars. Austin Holmes also scored in double figures for Lebo with 13 and Tyson Robke, Alex Linsey and Thadd Barker each added eight. For Hartford, Lane Ikerd contributed 10 points on the night.

Casey Atchison had a big night as Northern Heights defeated Wabaunsee with ease Friday. Atchison had 31 and the Wildcats led by 15 after the first quarter and by 28 at halftime.
“We came out tonight and really played well in the first half,” said Northern Heights coach Lanny Massey. “Our kids ran the floor well, and we were able to get a lot of transition baskets. Casey Atchison really got out on the break and got a lot of easy baskets. Overall, we are happy with the win but know that we have to get better than I really expected, and I was expecting a lot.”
The second half was more evenly played as the Wildcats cruised to the victory. Teeino Tabares added 13 points for Northern Heights. The Wildcats take on Herington next Tuesday.

The Chase County Bulldogs shrugged off a slow start Friday night to defeat Peabody Burns 27-24. The Bulldogs only scored three points in the first half as they found themselves down 14-3.
“It was a rough game the first half but once we showed up it went really well,” said Bulldogs coach Cammy Onek. “After a motivational halftime talk, (we) came out in the third quarter and scored 13. (I’m) very happy with our second half. It would have been really easy for the girls to give up and they chose not to.”
After entering the half down 11, Chase County held Peabody to just two points in the third to tie the score at 16. The Bulldogs won the fourth quarter as they put up 11 in the quarter. Robin Grokett and Laney Watts each scored eight points for the Bulldogs.

Council Grove lost by 21 as the Braves struggled offensively throughout the game. After being down by 12 points at halftime, the Braves were unable to make up the difference.
“I was proud of our girls,” said Council Grove coach Jim Collins. “They did a nice job. We didn’t shoot the ball well tonight but they competed well, and we’re going to be a good team by the end of the year.”
Kate Hula led the Braves with 10 points. Shelby and Taylor Morgan had five and four points respectively and Mo Chadd also had four points.
Council Grove will face Abilene on the road Tuesday night.

After being tied at the end of the first quarter, the Lebo Wolves took over the game and won 44-28 led by Ivy Ables and Jessica Robertson with 14 and 12 points respectively. Hartford was led by Bronte’ Bailey with ten points.
“The first half I was really pleased with the way the girls played,” said Hartford coach Yvonne Gardner. “We were right with them neck and neck, and in the second half we got into a little bit of foul trouble. I think we were worn out, and then you start reaching and that can hurt you.”
Hartford was outscored by 11 in the second half as the Jaguars were unable to make up the seven-point halftime deficit.

The Northern Heights Wildcats scored 24 points in the fourth quarter but were unable to come up with the win. The Wildcats allowed 37 points in the first half as they went into the break down 17.
“We did not play well in the first half but did come back with a strong second half,” said Northern Heights coach Tim Riemann. “I am glad that the girls continued to play hard and that we were able to make some adjustments. I think that we learned a lot from this game, and we are ready to go to Herington next week for three games and try to win that tournament.”
Northern Heights was led by Nicki Upshaw who had 13 points. Katelyn Zornes and Allison Siler each had 10 for the Wildcats as well.
