Law enforcement personnel across the state will be on the lookout for impaired drivers, speeders and those violating Kansas’ primary seat belt law during the Labor Day season.
Trooper Rick Wingate of the Kansas Highway Patrol said the Special Traffic Enforcement Program or STEP is funded through a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation. The STEP program will run from Thursday through Sept. 6. Three STEPs are being done this year: Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving.

People should be allowed to drive impaired, and even intoxicated. If they don't cause a wreck, who cares? We let people drive while angry, high on pot, while in a state of hypoglycemia, while under the influence of medication and many other conditions. Yet the police only check for alcohol consumption, not any of these other conditions. Most if not all people can drive just fine after a few drinks, so there is no need to persecute those who drink and drive, especially if they haven't had a wreck when they are detected. We should not punish people for what might happen, otherwise everybody would be in jail.

Wow, you sound like a really intelligent individual. I wish I knew who you were so I could steer clear of you on the road! And by the way, it is illegal to drive under the influence of drugs...even some prescription drugs.

I'd thought I'd heard it all until empgazfan's post. Here's the magic part of his post: "If they don't cause a wreck,"
If is a word trap for fools.

You'd be surprised how many people have the lst poster's attitude. Discuss the subject in a crowd sometime, you'll find alot of folks with the same mindset. I heard one guy cussing the cops for stopping people leaving bars, felt that was entrapment lol.

I wish they wouldn't warn the criminals that they are going to be targets. First, they should expect to be targets every time they break the law, not just in certain seasons. Info like this undermines the law. Second, let them get caught and teach them a lesson. They all know better and don't care so why should they be given friendly warnings?
