Monday, August 16, 2010
Emporia State pitching coach John Martin capped his first season as the head coach of the Liberal Beejays by leading his team to a win in the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita.
The Beejays defeated the Seattle Studs 9-6 in the championship game, rebounding with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth after blowing a 6-0 lead earlier in the contest.
Martin became the second member of ESU’s current coaching staff to win an NBC World Series title as a coach. Hornets head coach Bob Fornelli led the El Dorado Broncos to the NBC title in 1998.
