Friday Thoughts

Friday, August 13, 2010

Friday Thoughts is a light-hearted commentary.

Recently I was pulling up to a stop sign at Ninth Avenue and Commercial Street in downtown Emporia where I witnessed the most amazing acrobatic move.

As I approached the intersection, there was a man on a bike who either thought that I was not going to stop or thought that he should. Either way, he slammed on the brakes, and the rear of the bike started to rise up as he began to go over the handlebars. As I was watching the event, which seemed to be in slow motion, I saw he had coffee in his hand that he must have just picked up from the Granada Coffee Co., which was a couple of doors down.

As I watched, he raised his coffee up to the sky as he flipped over the handlebars only to somehow land on his feet. What was amazing is through all that, he never spilled a drop of coffee. The man and I exchanged nods after the amazing acrobatic act as he rode off down Commercial Street calmly sipping his coffee. The incredible acts people will go through to make sure they don’t spill a cup of Granada Coffee.
