Nearly 10 years after the Lyon County Courthouse was built, it is undergoing some repairs.
Dan Slater, Lyon County controller, said Harshman Construction out of Council Grove, one of the original contractors when the courthouse was first built, is doing the work.
“Some things haven’t weathered,” Slater said of the construction.
Slater said when the courthouse was built, some expansion joints were left out.
“As it gets hot and cold, things contract and enlarge,” he said. “And that has caused some problems. They did cut some large grooves on the east side of the courthouse so that there’s an expansion joint that can expand.”

"some expansion joints were left out."
Is it only now that this is revealed or has someone known this all this time? Who originally inspected this job? Why weren't these joints included to begin with? Is it negligence or did somebody okay these joints to be left out when the job was being done ten years ago?
Such a short story. So many questions.
