Former Emporian Jeremy Slater is working on an airport thriller movie for DreamWorks Studios, according to an article last week in The Hollywood Reporter.
Slater has pitched the movie with producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and sold it to DreamWorks.
Kurtzman and Orci, who produced “Eagle Eye” for the company, will produce the untitled thriller, which Slater will write.
“He’s been working with them for a while now and then last night, it got leaked,” said Slater’s father, Tom.
Jeremy Slater and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventure earlier had sold a speculative action-comedy script, “My Spy,” to CBS. Slater also sold a horror script, “Pet,” which revolved around a woman kidnapped by an obsessed fan.
Slater moved to California about five years ago to pursue a screenwriting career after working several years as a communications specialist for The Farm, now TFI Family Services.
Slater was home-schooled for much of his education and graduated from Olpe High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame at South Bend, Ind.
He is the son of former Emporians Tom and Dori Slater.

Now, now. Some kids can be home schooled more easily if their parents know what they're doing. In Jeremy's case, his family traveled extensively since Dad was in the Air Force, and mom knew exactly what she was doing. Lots of good, practical education there. Some of his observations of Jewish concentration camps in Germany were sensitive and enduring.
On the other hand, most of the kids I've taught who were home-schooled should never have been.
Proud of you, Jeremy! I'll never forget your first essay.

As a former homeschooled kid myself (and someone who interviewed Roberto Orci), this is one of my favorite Gazette stories ever. :)

Education is what one puts into it, I don't care where one is schooled, if they wish to learn and better themselves it will happen. Assuming one way is better than another is illogical. End result is all that matters. In my opinion Parents are the largest factor.

That is awesome. A home schooled guy finds great success in life. My hats off to his parents for teaching him well while he discovered ambition and creativity.
