Emporia High will have at least one internal candidate for its head boys basketball coaching position.
Carolyn Dorsey, who went undefeated as the junior varsity coach in her first season as an EHS assistant, confirmed that she’s planning on applying for the job vacated by Rick Bloomquist, who resigned last week after 21 years to pursue other coaching opportunities.
“I told them on Friday that I’d be interested in it,” Dorsey said Monday.
With just one year as an assistant under her belt, Dorsey, 25, might be considered a longshot for the job. But as a former player for both Emporia High and Emporia State, and as someone who’s familiar with the Spartan roster, she believes she has what it takes.
