Emporia State football coach Garin Higgins said this spring has been the most competitive spring football that he’s had since he arrived at ESU in 2007.
For that reason, Higgins decided to make some changes to tonight’s spring game, hoping to ride that competitive streak into next fall. Tonight’s game will feature two teams, the Gold and the Black, instead of just the offense against the defense, as has been the case in the last couple years.
“We wanted to divide up into teams because we compete so much against each other offensively and defensively that I thought it might be fun for the guys to have some guys on the defensive side of the ball be on their team,” Higgins said. “So it’s not just so much competition between the offense and defense.”
One of the main reasons for the Hornets’ competitive fire has been the competition at different positions on both sides of the ball.
