Teen found unharmed in Allen

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

A missing 18-year-old Emporia High School senior was found early Monday afternoon in Allen.

Emporia Police Lt. John Koelsch said that Lyon County Sheriff’s officers confirmed they had found the teen.

“She’s well,” Koelsch said.

Koelsch earlier Monday had asked for public assistance in finding Katherine M. Edlund, 18, who was reported missing about 10:17 p.m. Sunday night.

“Edlund sent a text message to a friend indicating she was hurt and needed help,” Koelsch said in a press release about the missing girl. “The cell phone company was contacted and the last location of the cell phone was southwest of 927 Road 212 in Lyon County.”

Koelsch said that Lyon County Sheriff’s Department officers had searched that area since Sunday night and throughout Monday morning.

According to investigators, Edlund sent a second text to a relative saying she was in Allen. Investigation into the case is continuing.

If it's a prank or plea for attention, will she have to pay back the tax dollars she wasted? Our deputies have better things to do than waste time and money on wild goose chases. That being said, I'm really glad she's been found safe. When I heard about it I was really praying for her to be found ok. Now I pray she gets whatever help she needs.
