Bloomquist announces resignation

In an e-mail to parents of present and former Junior Spartan players, Rick Bloomquist said he has resigned his position as boys basketball coach at Emporia High School, which he has held for 21 years.

"Not often does a coach in this position get a chance to stay as long as I have, and I do appreciate that. I have made many friends and watched many kids grow," Bloomquist wrote to the Junior Spartan parents. "But I need a new challenge, and look forward to continue coaching and building. It’s what I do."

In a telephone call, Bloomquist confirmed that he is resigning from coaching, but will remain as an EHS teacher.

Coach Bloomquist was a track coach in my days as well. Coached me to a Centennial League Championship in the High Jump in 1998. I am very proud of that even today and couldn't have done it with out him. He was a good coach. Good luck!
