Missing two of its golfers, Emporia High struggled at the Centennial League tournament on Tuesday at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Topeka.
The four Spartan golfers that made the trip shot a collective 474, last among the seven teams that were eligible for a team score. Senior Melissa Heinitz led the Spartans with a 111.
“We just, from the start, struggled,” EHS coach Rick Eckert said. “... It was just one of those days we need to put behind us, and hopefully we can get better.”
Freshman Amber Mechtley had the second-best performance among the EHS golfers, posting a 115. Makenzie Harder shot a 123, and fellow senior Rachael Clopton had a 125. The Spartan lineup was without Hannah Watkins and Kelsey Burenheide.
