Stories developed from a visit last month by Tom Brokaw and a film crew will begin airing tonight.
The first piece will air on NBC Nightly News at 5:30 p.m. A “Character Dispatch” will air on the USA cable network at 6 p.m. tonight between two episodes of NCIS.
An expanded story, which includes an interview with Emporia Mayor Jeff Longbine, will air Thursday on the Morning Joe show on MSNBC. Morning Joe begins at 5 a.m.
A final piece will air on the Today show sometime after the Morning Joe piece airs, perhaps Monday or Tuesday. In addition, the visit will be featured in a longer episode of the “American Character Along Highway 50” on USA, premiering in January.

I saw the item on the USA network this evening about the Emporia Gazette and felt very sad as I have felt close ties to the Gazette since I was old enough to remember. My Great-grandfather, George Wilder Smith, worked with William Allen White in the 1890's - early 1900's. My Grandmother, Bertha May Smith Burrell, worked in the print shop with her father from the age of 16, after school, till her marriage to Albert Luther Burrell in 1904. She was always proud of her affiliation with the Gazette, "a very fine paper".
I'm very sorry about your current problems and pray you can survive the hard times.
Sincerely, Laurel Myers

Gee, that piece didn't have anything at all to do with anything that affects my life in any way...or anyone I know. In that case, was that really about Emporia????
(just in case that sounded negative, I was just making sure to be a self-fulfilling prophecy based on Ashley's comments about forum posters--both on here and in general--in the printed story of Brokaw's visit)
