Emporia High’s gymnastics team finished last out of six squads on Tuesday at the Olathe North Invitational, but the Spartans posted six personal bests, including all five of its competitors on the beam.
Kaitlyn Miller led the personal-best charge on the beam with a 7.65. Kristina McAuley scored a 7.00, Alex Allen had a 6.90, Kylie Mains posted a 5.60 and Brenda Del Alba had a 5.20. Adding another personal best was Ashley Wheeler, Emporia’s only floor entry in Tuesday’s meet. Wheeler scored a 7.4.
EHS coach Barbara Clark also liked the Spartans’ showing on bars, where Miller posted a score of 5.05 and McAuley and Mains each had a 4.25.
“And actually, vault did good,” Clark said. “They didn’t have any personal bests, but with one practice, we cleaned up some stuff. ... And Ashley cleaned up some stuff on floor. So really, I came away (from) this meet, I thought we were doing well.”
