Local residents will be walking for memory Sunday for the annual Memory Walk to help benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
There is no fee to participate in the walk — donations are accepted however. Funds raised will benefit the Heart of America Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The chapter serves 66 counties in Kansas and Missouri.
“Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia, is a progressive and fatal brain disease that destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory,” said Paula Sauder in a press release. “Women are nearly twice as likely as men to develop the disease.”
Funds for the walk will benefit care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association; raise awareness that encourages people to seek an accurate and early diagnosis; and support a better life for those living with Alzheimer’s, according to the press release.
“Left unchecked, 16 million Americans will develop the disease, including 10 million baby boomers,” Sauder said in the press release.
