Attempted burglary
Tuesday, September 29, 2009
Local law enforcement is seeking information on an attempted burglary to the Liquor Locker, 2716 W. 12th Ave. On Sept. 21 at 1:20 a.m., their alarm was set off when someone damaged the front door in an attempt to get in. This was the second burglary attempt to a liquor store in two days. Several bottles of liquor were taken from the other liquor store involved.
If you have any information regarding these burglaries or any other crime, please contact Lyon County Crime Stoppers at 342-2273 or the Emporia Police Department at 343-4200.

This technically happened early Monday morning, but arguably it could be considered late Sunday night. I wonder if this would have still happened if Sunday sales were not prohibited... Pushing your beliefs on others when your ONLY reasoning for it is "Jesus says so" will only result in people fighting it and lashing out.
I'm not making excuses for the criminal/s responsible, but I'm not making excuses for the ludicrous Sunday sales ban either. Keep your religion out of my life and out of my business. If I want to sell a legal product, I should be able to do so any day of the week regardless of your personal beliefs.
What if my religion says you can't eat on Sundays? Does that mean I should force all restaurants and grocery stores to stop selling food on Sundays?

LOL dhcc66. The same can be said about bank robberies. Those robbers just couldn't wait until the bank opens on Monday or worse yet, lost their ATM card.
Are there still bootleggers around town for Sunday buys?

Alright friends, I hope you all know I wasn't being entirely serious. While I've certainly been pretty desperate a few Sunday nights, it wouldn't motivate me to break any laws. I doubt the attempted burglary was "Sunday sales" motivated, but I took the opportunity to step on the soap box anyway.
YY4U,
People who sell drugs on Sunday? Do you mean pharmacists or tobacco shops? Why are those legal products allowed, but no booze?
dhcc66,
Some car dealers ARE open on Sunday. Isn't it nice that they have the option? The ones who are closed on Sunday choose to be. Alcohol and cars are hardly the same type of product to be making such a comparison. You see, most people can't drink on the job and most people only have the weekends off. Wouldn't it make sense that most people will buy/consume alcohol on the weekend? Cars, on the other hand, may not be purchased so exclusively on the weekend, so some owners have decided it is not profitable to be open on Sunday. (plus they like to have a day off too) The same could be said for banks as well, create.
If liquor stores should be closed any day, I would think it would be Monday since most folks have to go back to work and are probably all partied-out from the weekend. Either way, it should be at the owners’ discretion.
Most barber shops are closed on Mondays…Jesus must have said at some point that we can’t get our hair cut on Monday…

The same city of people voted for the Sunday Liquor Sales Ban and the Public Indoor Smoking Ban. You can't get leniency for your vice and restriction on someone else's. It's either leniency/leniency or restriction/restriction. Deal with it.
Still might be on the fence about burglary, but only because of the cake factor.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't liquor stores allowed to be open on Sundays? I believe the only restriction is that they not sell liquor, right? They can sell all the pretzels and nuts they want, right? So if they aren't open, that was by their own choice due to profitability????????
Yeah, thought so!!

When is our government going to do more about liver disease?
Surely a measure to raise the difficulty level of obtaining alcohol would have similar voting results as the smoking ban. They are both unhealthy and people are concerned about health, both theirs and everyone elses. I think restricting the sale of this .... well ... poison really, to Tuesday, Thursday, and, Saturday would be a step in the right direction. Then people could ween off slowly until we could ration out two and only two glasses of wine a day because it is said to have health benefits. These health benefits can come from nonalcoholic grape juice as well so eventually as we evolve we will discover that their really is no need for alcohol at all. "But R. what about alcohol as a social lubricant?" Some desperate losers might say. Well I would just point to evolution again and say if you can't get a lady without you or her being drunk then you are week and shouldn't reproduce. I'm not making this stuff up folks, it's science! Alcohol is helping people who have no business reproducing reproduce. Obviously this primordial ooze isn't going to control themselves and limit their exposure to alcohol and reproduction on their own so I see no other course of action but that the government step in and do something!
Stop the booze stop the ooze!

Excess of anything leads to problems, alcohol does have health benefits when used in moderation, unlike smokeless tobacco or cigarettes. Last I knew when people where put on probation one of the conditions is usually no alcohol, hence something is done when people commit crimes that are alcohol related, and often have to attend AA meetings in addition to this.
"These health benefits can come from nonalcoholic grape juice as well so eventually as we evolve we will discover that their really is no need for alcohol at all"
This is just flat out wrong, do some research you will see that alcohol in moderation is good for your heart and arteries, among other things.

Burglary is neither right nor wrong because these concepts are outdated. If you fail to protect your property from an individual that is an indicator that they are more evolved than you. Laws protecting people from burglars are only a futile attempt to slow down the process of natural selection.

"Eating whole red or purple grapes has benefits, as well. Some research suggests eating whole grapes also delivers the same antioxidants that are in grape juice and wine. You also get the benefit of the fiber if you eat whole grapes.
These findings on grape juice are good news for people who want the cardiovascular benefits of red wine without the alcohol. Remember, if you do choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation — no more than one drink a day for women or two drinks a day for men. "

Do you feel that the health benefits is why people drink alcohol? I'm going to start to laugh now in case your answer is yes. If this is the case with yourself, good for you. Perhaps this is evidence of your advanced evolutionary state. It seems to me that now that we have this knowledge of what is beneficial to ones health and what is not, it is easy to tell who is more evolved. Obviously the more evolved people take this information and use it to further themselves. The rest of them can just die off as natural selection takes it's course. Evolution is perhaps the greatest argument against health care reform. Why delay the inevitable by caring for the weak and sickly? There is no scientific reason to do so.

Some do, some don't, 1-2 beers has also been proven to have positive health effects, your missing the point, alcohol DOES have some added health benefits, tobacco has none. This was all I set out to prove. People abuse a great many things that are postive in nature and become toxic in greater quantities, so whats your point? You going to commute this to an argument about alcohol abuse now? Because it never was to start with.

My point is that it is evident from these "people's" behavior that they are not as smart as people that don't poison themselves and therefore are less evolved. It is high time that we do away with laws that protect these "people" from natural selection.

My internet email in mailbox was full this morning with questions about evolution. It hasn't been this full since the days of our Logjam discussions.
The majority of the internet emails I got are along the lines of wanting to know how I can be so confident in my obvious evolutionary superiority and can others have the same confidence. Well the answers to those questions is best answered with a story and then some more questions.
For me it stated as a child, like most people, I noticed that we are all different, some darker some lighter, some shorter some taller, some homely some (like myself) very attractive. As I got older I started to notice some people would try not to look at some people and try to look at others. I would catch people just staring at me. When I would catch them they would kinda half smile and look away kinda embarrassed like they knew they shouldn't stare but couldn't really help themselves. After discovering all this I still wasn't sure what all this meant. The puzzel pieces really started coming together just a few months ago. I was at the Wal-mart getting some bean sprouts, tofu, and a new Yoga mat (I go through one about every two months) and I noticed that not only were people enjoying looking at me but I was starting to get kinda sick feeling looking at them. I gathered up my pompous purchases and put them in my Earth friendly recycled green hemp shopping tote and headed for the register. I seriously was not feeling good. Was it really from looking at all those ugoes? I wasn't for sure until I got to my Prius and was silently backing out of the stall and locked eyes with myself in the rear view mirror. I had to stop for a minute and just stare at the reflection. I started to feel better the more I looked. An hour later I decided to leave the parking lot and go home where I have many full length mirrors and many clothing options, all fabulous. After many hours of reflection (pun intended LOL ;-) :0 :-p rofl lol ;0) I came to realize that I was evolved and very good at it. I have not had a moment of doubt since that day.
Now to the questions. How can you know if you are evolved or just primordial ooze? Well here are some questions you can ask yourself?
1. Do I enjoy looking at my own reflection?
B. Do I catch others just kinda staring at me?
3. Am I jealous of others or are they jealous of me?
IV. Do I drive a hybrid?
6. Do I find tofu to be delicious?
7. Do I describe things that you normally don't taste as being "delicious"?
*. Am I offended by anything I have read in this post?
IX. Do I have a sense of humor?
X. Have I been fooled into thinking that Serious is serious?
Ask yourselves these questions and if you do you will be well on your way to knowing if you are evolved. Ultimately you will just know or not. These questions are only meant to help you if you can even be helped. You're welcome for my time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Burglary is typically defined as the unlawful entry into almost any structure (not just a home or business) with the intent to commit any crime inside (not just theft/larceny). No physical breaking and entering is required; the offender may simply trespass through an open door. Unlike robbery, which involves use of force or fear to obtain another person's property, there is usually no victim present during a burglary.
For example, Dan enters Victor's boathouse through an open window, intending to steal Victor's boat. Finding the boat is gone, Dan returns home. Though he took nothing, Dan has committed burglary. source, http://criminal.findlaw.com/crimes/a-...
Does this Law definition of Burglary change anyones perception of Burglary ?

Our alliance's purpose is to survive and evolve. If that include defending ourselves from a burglar then so be it. If that includes us burglaring then so be it. It is all about survival and getting one up on the other alliances. Survival of the fittest! No pleasure. No joy. The only feeling that is beneficial is pain because it let's us know that something is wrong. We have enough information to survive without the incentives that pleasure and joy and other obsolete fealings and emotions served as before we had the knowledge we do today. Useless feelings and emotions will sooner or later evolve right out of existence. Have a great day and watch your back.

Let me illustrate my point about feelings and emotions being counter productive to our evolution.
After work yesterday I was hungry and my mate had gotten me a gyro from Arby's, I ate it and enjoyed it. It was plenty of food to sustain me for a good long time but because of the useless pleasure I received from eating it I wanted more. I was able to suppress these feelings I had but if I hadn't I would have found something else to eat and gotten fat and slow and less fit to survive. You see even enjoying food is counter productive to evolution and will soon be a thing of the past. We now know what we need to eat and how much to survive, we don't need useless incentives like joy and pleasure to keep us going as a species.

The only time you address emotions, it seems to be ones the rest of us think of as positive ones, i.e. love, happiness, pleasure, joy, etc. I am wondering about the ones we "unevolved" refer to as negative emotions, i.e. hate, anger, unhappiness. Where do those fit into the evolutionary process?
October 2, 2009 at 9:14 a.m. ( permalink | suggest removal )
seriouslyfolks (anonymous) says...
If there's no positive emotions then there's no negative ones. With knowledge their really is no need for any of them. We know what must be done to survive. There is no need to muddy the waters with emotions. It will be easy to give up the negative emotions so addressing them is rather pointless. We must address the positive emotions because the weaker ones will have a harder time giving them up.

I completely disagree. Most people are harboring (and have been for a long time) many negative emotions that they won't let go of...we are a bunch of masochistic people that way. Most positive emotions, however. are short-lived and often even faked. I don't think those are the harder ones for people to give up. If they even have them, they are the first to go.
I also have to question a lifestyle you claim to practice, which is yoga. You claim not to feel feelings, and yet you claim to practice a ritual which is centered around feeling your feelings. What are you really doing, because it is clear that it is not, in fact, yoga. I didn't confront this at the time, but you said you have to replace your mat once every two months? Heath Ledger was a method actor. He immersed himself into the roll of the Joker for the Batman movie The Dark Night and it is said that it made him go mad to the point of dependence on drugs to sleep. These drugs caused his death. I thought he was a pretty weak guy if just pretending to be someone could have this affect on him but now I think otherwise. The last couple of days I have tried to understand what it would look like to fully embrace evolution and the it's implication that life is meaningless. What a horrible dark place it has taken me. I have gained sympathy for Heath Ledger and perhaps some better insight on how to practically apply the grace and mercy I actually do believe in.
