Emporia High finished in fourth place out of five teams during its third consecutive Saturday hosting a tennis invitational, with the Spartans going a combined 4-11.
Emporia’s best showing of the meet came from its No. 1 doubles team of Kaitlin Gile and Brooke Gutierrez, which won two matches to finish in third place. Gile/Gutierrez defeated Campus High School’s doubles team 8-4 and Free State 8-3. They lost to Blue Valley Northwest 8-2 and to Olathe East 8-5.
Both EHS singles players went 1-3 and finished in fourth place. Nancy Delgado defeated Campus’ Serena Vonegars 8-6. She lost to Free State’s McKenzie Lowen by an 8-1 score, dropped a match to Kristin Pratscher of Blue Valley Northwest 8-6 and lost 8-0 to Olathe East’s Kristen Stivers.
The Spartans host another home invitational today beginning at 3:30 p.m.
