Three sixth-graders in the Emporia public school system used Emporia Clean Sweep as an opportunity to help out with a city project and to get some “serious extra credit points” for an enrichment class at Lowther North Intermediate School.
Max Brown scanned the Jones Park drop-off site with a video recorder Saturday afternoon, between helping unload pickup trucks and passenger cars that brought in all kinds of trash imaginable, including a cast-iron bath tub.
The work and the taping were just the beginning for Brown and friends Nick Kirmer and Seth Tilton. Interviews, surveys, and a PowerPoint presentation about Emporia Clean Sweep would need to be done later.
The boys were among a host of volunteers and city employees who descended on vehicles as they entered the Jones Park parking lot at Lincoln Street, to empty the trash into the appropriate industrial-sized containers.
Dumpers came in pickup trucks and passenger cars Friday and Saturday to unload fresh trash, old treasures and thousands of tires during the second week of Emporia Clean Sweep. More Clean Sweeps are planned for the next two Fridays and Saturdays.

This was a great service, and a great way to get rid of old, broken, and unwanted stuff.
Thank you to the organizers and volunteers for making this happen!
